There is so much drama around this title, someone should make a video game based on its development.
Meh no matter, at the moment Resident Evil 7 is looking more promising as a PT successor then this especially after its drama
Meh no matter, at the moment Resident Evil 7 is looking more promising as a PT successor then this especially after its drama
Given one of the people who worked on PT is working on RE7 it's as close as it will get. The footage they showed of this game and pretty much every other PT clone just showed little to no imagination whatsoever. The whole point of PT was challenging your expectations and perceptions of horror games and yet all these PT clones copy the exact same shit and inevitably fall into generic gameplay tropes of horror games from the past 10 years.
RE7 is just derelict plantation. PT/AR is modern family home. Kinda plays into the difference since most people live in modern family homes. The two games are almost non-comparable other than first-person survival horror and RE7 will have some combat.
It is more for the creepy-corridor simulator which both games appear to be except RE 7 will be having more content or so i am guessing.
Meh no matter, at the moment Resident Evil 7 is looking more promising as a PT successor then this especially after its drama
Yeah but resident evil is supposed to be action - survival horror, why do i have to hide and cowers away when you got Leon scott kennedy in resident evil 4 openly mocking his enemy and not fearing a single boss?
Yeah but resident evil is supposed to be action - survival horror, why do i have to hide and cowers away when you got Leon scott kennedy in resident evil 4 openly mocking his enemy and not fearing a single boss?
My guess is that they're trying to inch away from the Leon Kennedy formula, given the reception of 5 and 6, and instead are trying to recapture some of the more methodical chill of the original trilogy, while trying to blend it with first-person sneakery?

Or any of the remakes of those? Not to mention the 2 remake in development?
Horror games that only take place in everyday homes have such a strong effect on me.
Saw a demo video of this a while back. It looked terribly designed, and did almost everything it could do wrong for a horror game.

Yeah, i guess, but my point stand in that an horror games should'nt be (ONLY) about hiding and escaping something. And isn't resident evil 4 considered the best resident evil and the last "good" resident evil because resident evil 5 and six were hated by the community?
Yeah, i guess, but my point stand in that an horror games should'nt be (ONLY) about hiding and escaping something.
Why not? It worked for plenty of other games and those games have generally been considered the best and most popular in recent times.
And isn't resident evil 4 considered the best
Depends who you're talking to. It's a situation where you've got people who prefer the limited camera angles and tank controls, and you've got people who prefer the over-the-shoulder "I can aim in a resident evil game it's a christmas miracle" camera and controls. Hell, you might even have people whose favorite game is Dead Aim because they liked lightgun games.
and the last "good" resident evil because resident evil 5 and six were hated by the community?
This is pretty much true. There hasn't been a game where everyone in the community has gone "this is some good shit right here" since RE4. The games have all either been mixed reviews or considered garbage and the best RE games of recent are the fucking re-releases like REmake, RE0, and RE4.
When horror games give you weapons to defend they stop being scary (except for jumpscares). Dead Space, Resi 4-6, Evil Within. They are just not survival horror like Alien Isolation, Soma, Amnesia, etc.

Weapons only eliminate horror if you're overstocked. I've always found games that make sure you have a limited supply of ammo for your guns very scary, it's an incredibly huge factor that adds to the games tension and overall scariness
RE 1-3 had weapons and Alien Isolation had weapons. The problem isn't weapons. It's ammo and effectiveness.
Alien Isolation has weapons but it encourages to not use them, since it attracts enemies (humans, alien and androids)

It's when you have a reliable supply of resources with which to deal with things that the dread peters off. But if you find yourself without any items to heal you, you're more likely to end up sneaking around on a mere sliver of health, knowing that the next hit will be the last, making you dread getting spotted even more than usual. As for weapons, you should have at least something, like a vain last-ditch attempt to deal with the wobbling mutant chewing on your arse. The games Frictional puts out have had this problem starting with Black Plague, and it's only gotten worse, especially if you have something laying around that someone could logically pick up and try to flail weakly with it. Philip, Daniel, Oswald and Simon have NO excuse to not try and defend themselves, since the last time I looked they had arms with hands on the end, and they use them perfectly fine to throw chairs around. Philip and Simon especially, since Philip knew how to smack dogs around with a broom in Overture but forgot how to pick up a weapon in Black Plague. And as for Simon, he gets his hands on a fucking stun gun at Site Delta, but tosses it away after it seemingly stops working, when he could just as easily have carried it with him to Theta and tried to figure out how to fix it in the facility. But like you said, too much stuff to reliably solve your problems can be too reassuring for the player, again subtracting from the dread factor since you end up with enough stuff to face all your problems head-on. We shouldn't start with a Glock and a box of bullets, but we should be able to pick something up and swing it, or at least be able to shove the monster away and knock them off-balance, giving us a second or two to run away.
