"I'm Ben Carson, and I'm a candidate for president of the United States," he told a crowd in his hometown of Detroit on Monday, making his presidential bid official to wild applause.
In a speech to a crowd that his campaign estimated at thousands, the retired neurosurgeon and unlikely conservative star introduced his wife and family and called for "the people to rise up and take the government back." Carson told the story of his rise from poverty, where he lived in homes infested with roaches — "in the more upscale areas, they called 'em waterbugs, but we knew what they were" he joked — and promised that he wouldn't change his signature style, framing himself as an outsider up against the political elite.
"I'm probably never going to be politically correct because I'm not a politician," he said. "I don't want to be a politician. Because politicians do what is politically expedient — I want to do what's right."

Carson demanded another "wave election" this cycle, not of Republicans (who already control both chambers of Congress), but rather to elect "people with common sense who actually love our nation, and are willing to work for our nation, and are more concerned about the next generation than the next election."

But the prospect of failure doesn't seem to faze Carson anyway. He's often said that he's only looking at the race because he's gotten strong encouragement from supporters and a nudge from God — not because he actually covets the White House.
If he lost, he recently told the magazine of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, "I would say 'Whew!'"
"Because it's not something I ever really wanted to do, and the only reason I'd consider it is because there's so many people across the nation clamoring for me to do it," he added.
I hope Dr. Carson gets the nomination. Dr. Carson and Bernie Sanders have to be the two most genuine people I've seen so far that want the presidency, in that they both genuinely want to change this country for what they believe is for the better. In the end, I would rather have a thousand Ben Carsons or Bernie Sanders before I would want an Obama or Rand Paul.
I'm happy he's running because of his background.
However, his views are kinda wacky to me
Edit:
As in, he's not a standard politician-type-deal
Bernie Sanders all the way though
Reading up on this guy, hes kind of an interesting politician. Moderate republican meets pastor kinda deal.

Though this has me worried:
ObamaCare is the worst thing since slavery.
I mean it's bad but come on dude.
I heard a story that this guy stabbed someone but claimed that it was fine because he prayed for forgiveness.
Seriously? How are you a neurosurgeon and outright deny things like climate change and evolution?
Upgrade from Black President 0.5 beta edition to Black President 1.0
Doubts obvious science in favor of religious fervor
He's often said that he's only looking at the race because he's gotten strong encouragement from supporters and a nudge from God
implies that god wants him to be president
yeah fuck this guy
how the hell does a doctor, let alone a neurosurgeon, not believe in evolution?
little embarrassed that guys like this get a pass for claiming to hear voices from god and don't get called a psycho for it
Republicans aren't serious about him, they just want a black candidate (who won't win the nomination) in a attempt to draw black voters.

He tried to stab someone when he was a teenager but instead hit the guy's belt buckle or something else solid, breaking the knife instead.

Good. Over the past few years we've tried a couple thousand of those. Look where it's gotten us. Some outside-the-box thinking may be just what the oval office needs right now.
Reminder this is the guy who said that prisons prove homosexuality is a choice, because straight men go in and then end up doing gay things to other inmates while they're in.
who

clearly a good reason to elect someone completely bonkers

Well, I can't imagine the belief or not in evolution affects his surgeries much.
I was confused until the reference about stabbing a guy and praying it away, they made a movie about him, it's called Gifted Hands.

what he meant to ask, is how someone devotes their life to medical profession without a solid understanding of and respect for the processes of biology

It's literally unnecessary to be a brain surgeon. He could fill out all the right answers the teachers were looking for during his college education but it seriously is not required for the job he took.

are you intentionally missing the point?
i'm not even saying he's a bad surgeon
this is about the bewilderment that someone could enter a biologic field professionally without a conviction to believe in all of biology
Carson...the non evolutionary biologist neuroscientist....
Guy either doesn't have half a brain or knows full well that the republicans are full of ignorant anti-science zealots (of their lord n savior) and actually encourages them

There seems to some inverse bell curve where people like doctors and engineers seem abnormally likely to believe insane shit.

Would thinking that homosexuality is a choice really be "What the oval office needs right now"?
Keep this fuckstick away from public office and let him fade into obscurity.
god didn't fucking tell you to run, that's like someone going "my imaginary friend said to go have lunch at *my favorite restaurant*."
God/whomever always agrees with the person listening, friggin' always
clearly a good reason to elect someone completely bonkers
No, but it does seem an appropriate reason to put words in my mouth. Note that nowhere in my post did I suggest this example should be the one chosen. Despite a handful of Facepunchers with terrible reading skills and a propensity to see shit that ain't there, I didn't endorse this guy.

He did come out an apologize for that and said that what he sad in that interview doesn't truly reflect all of his views on gay marriage and such. He doesn't have people telling him what to say or how to say it like politicians do. He did, however, take full responsibility for what he said, which I can respect, because politicians these days don't want to be responsible for shit.

He apologized and immediately afterwards said both that the science on whether or not homosexuality is a choice wasn't certain (Which is a lie), and also in the same interview that marriage should be only between a man and a woman.
No, the prison comment was pretty reflective of his opinion on gays. I mean yeah I guess he's genuine about his opinions, but genuine in a Herman Cain insanity sort of way.
