This has to be the weirdest way I've ever seen anyone handle a game. It's designed like an MMO, structured like an MMO, yet Bungie/Activision treat it like it's CoD/Battlefield. It's an awkward mess when it comes to their content release mechanism. Just take a page from all the other MMO's out there (on the next game, they pretty much screwed up with this one) and implement a sub fee for extra content.
That's why most MMOs can last longer than a year or two, because they have more reliable funds from a constant flow of income and are thus able to hire more bodies and push out more content more frequently. This "DLC pack" form of content is abysmal. Games like FFXIV have proven that you can pull off the subscription model on consoles. Hell, if they're that worried about getting subs, make the vanilla disc content F2P and just encourage a sub for future content.
I get so excited when I see new things appearing about Destiny, it just looks really great. But in the end once you play the game a bit more, it just gets so tedious and boring. There is really a lack of depth to it, the repetition just sets in so fast and I played actually quite a lot.

Destiny is a shared-world shooter not an MMO
