• Volunteers Needed for Psychology Study into Internet Behaviour

I'm in my final year of uni blah blah dissertation blah project etc and basically I need a whole load of participants to fill in some rather boring questionnaires for me, all online. I'm studying Psychology (and Philosophy too but it's not connected to that so much) and I chose to do my final year project on the relationship between gender, levels of online activity and the disinhibiting effect of communicating on the internet, more specifically, in terms of self-disclosure, and aggression / flaming and such. So far it has been quite an interesting study, regarding the literature I've had to review and structuring the questionnaires took some doing (please don't harass me that they are rubbish questions because we have to use pre-existing measurement scales that have had their psychometric properties evaluated and tested for reliability etc so we can't just make our own things up and pretend that they measure what they say they do) I am hoping that the results will be fairly obvious and go in the direction I hypothesised i.e. more males will tend to flame, more females will tend to self-disclose, more time spent on the net means more likely to do both of the above, and a few other predictions that I can't remember right now. If anyone is vaguely interested in the results, I should have finished the analysis and everything by Christmas so I can tell you, if you are really that bothered. There are two questionnaires, one for offline/f2f communications and one for online (known as CMC- computer mediated communication) You only have to fill one in, if you want, but you can fill them both in if you are really bored I guess Also please only fill each form in once and once only. Oh and there is a prize draw for an £20 Amazon voucher (or if you're from another country I'm sure I could figure something out, Paypal or whatever) - if you enter your email address at the end. tee ell dee are - Please fill in 1 or both of the below forms to help with my pscho investigation on internet trolls Possible chance of reward Online http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dHZEUlZsTVlkVGtBb3llbmhsN0Y4MXc6MA.. Offline http://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?hl=en&formkey=dHN3MXdKQ0N3Y2RkclBwcnM4MnpSamc6MA.. Thank you! UPDATE Well, it's all finished now! (So you don't have to fill in these now, thanks!) In fact it was finished in January this year but I haven't been on here since as I'm in the middle of writing another dissertation paper for my other subject and have exams and such. I got a first class mark for this paper that you guys helped me with ^^ You can read it here if you are interested. Thanks everyone for taking part, and for the laughs I got from quite a few of the answers! http://liverpool.academia.edu/SharleenNallEvans/attachment/779294/full/An-interactional-investigation-into-disinhibited-behaviour-as-mediated-by-online-participation-and-gender
Filling out the survey! Could that prize be transferred into USD though? Just wondering, in the event that someone wins who doesn't live in Europe.
Filling them out.
" Dr J. Cruickshank" Nice name there :smugdog:
I haven't purchased the voucher yet so I'll wait until I have all the responses, pick an email address and ask them what they would like! A Steam game may be appropriate too lol Thank you for being the first one to fill in!
I thought it was quite apparent about how people act and react online. Very negatively jesus fucking christ.
I filled out both forms. :patriot:
Aww. I thought we were gonna be able to put on therapist outfits and evaluate whackjobs, Boy did i misread the title. Anywhoo Will do!

Done
Done!
Doing it now, I'm an A-Level psychology student.
I filled it out. I felt that the questionnaire was rather broad and nonspecific, I don't know how much you'll gain from evaluating its answers.
Yeah the questions were far too general
Done.
If you make up your own interesting questions you have to pilot the whole thing and test it over time and over different people and check that it is measuring reliably and things like that, I know the questions were a bit duddy but they are used from the only other scales for measuring attitudes and things in this context Tbh there isn't a lot of literature at all or studies that have been carried out in this area, and a lot of people assume that it will always be one way (like Banned User said) but when I have all the responses the results might be quite surprising, and not all negative at all, or women might end up being the bitchier ones online, who knows I'm not though =3
k done
I filled it in and left a bit a a philosophical response to the last question. Hope it helps.
Eh same here I also added a (P.S. Hi Facepunch) [editline]09:22PM[/editline] I said 'The gift of anonymity lets me not care what people think about me'
What type of psychological mumbo jumbo is trolling?
Because I assure you, if somone I knew visited these forums I wouldn't post the way I do.
hehe I shall look out for it, and hope my supervisor Dr. C doesn't know what it means
