PRICES ARE CAD
It's all around $1200 for lowest prices, + tax will be ~$1320
Plus a monitor is about $200+ tax is $220 for like 23.5" or 23"
I have like $1100 and slowly making money, SLOWLY, I might have enough money by like late November if I get a job. (I'm looking for a job, but it's kind of hard here).
So should I just wait it out and have a big pile of money and buy everything or should I buy some stuff now, anything that won't go down in price.
Are monitors gonna go down?
i5 760 and cm690 instead
AMD Phenom II quadcores are cheaper, and the reduction in power doesn't matter a whole lot if it's just for gaming. Though if you're gonna be doing heavy photoshop work or something, the i7 is worth it.
Of course, you'd need a different motherboard if you're going AMD.
Also just wanna say I fucking love the look of that case.
Oh yeah, and you forgot the DVD drive, unless you're gonna salvage it from your current build.
Stick with the i7. But very nice build, that Asus mobo is nice. Also, what about RAM?
don't even make the build until you're ready to buy everything
shit changes and it's just wasted effort
If you are using this rig for gaming get the i5 or the AMD 955.
Also, don't buy your PC in pieces, save up and order them when you've got the money.
A friend of mine once ordered a badass computer from Newegg. The case and motherboard arrived, and everything else got delayed for nearly a month. He describes that as the most tense and frustrating period of his life.
So yea, don't order it incomplete.

I think it's fine to slowly buy pieces for DVD/HDD/Case/PSU and sometimes GPU. But I would definitely buy mobo/cpu/ram at same time
I wouldn't buy the parts separately over time, you will just get impatient and buy crap.

Woops fixed :)

I am using this for gaming (intense games like Bad Company 2, next Crysis, crazy etc), , watching HD movies, mapping for Source, and maybe crysis, and possibly recording "Machinimas" in HD so now do you still think I should switch? Or stay?
DVD, w.e 30 bucks somewhere, not a huge deal, not a necess- DAMN, installing an OS, well w.e they are cheap, im just looking for a simple dvd burner, but I'm sure one of my friends might have on lying around.

Get an i5 750, cheaper mobo (P7P55D?), less ram and a better gpu.

I7 isnt better then an i5 (ot a good AMD Quad core for that matter) There is very little difference between running any game on an i5 or i7.
I7 has hyperthreading and a different achitecture which allows it to perform better in rendering, decoding, compiling ect. Things you will probably not be doing.
An i7 may let you compile source/crysis maps faster, but that's about it. Overall, for the purposes you described, I think an AMD would be plenty good enough.
The Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition is generally considered to be the best value.

You will, of course, need a suitable motherboard to go with it. The ASUS M4A87TD EVO has some great features (USB 3.0, SATA III, Crossfire support) and does not cost much.

With the money saved, you may wish to consider upgrading the graphics card to an HD 5870, which can easily run Crysis, BC2 etc. at the highest possible settings and even with mods that push it further.
Sorry these are not Canadian website...
You don't compile crysis levels, also OP are you looking for vale or are you trying to max out your budget?
OP are you looking for vale or are you trying to max out your budget?
what is vale? valUe?
Yeah sure bang for buck is good.
Looking at some charts i didn't realize there is a HUGE (40fps) different between the 1gb and 2gb cards.
Should I just get a 5870 2gb, or a 5850 2gb, not much of a price difference.
I will think about switching boards and CPU's. This is all very helpful.
edit: Should I overclock with a default heatsink?
A 5870 1GB will max out Crysis, with graphics mods, at 1080p and play at a consistent 50+ FPS.
The 955 can be overclocked pretty well with a default heatsink, according to what I heard some have got it to 4ghz. Don't push your luck though.

the charts i saw on tomshardware was significantly lower, running bad company on full on the 1gb cards went from 50fps to 90 fps on a 2gb card.
I think I could oerclock a 2.8ghz i7 to 3.0ghz? thats reasonable, maybe 3.1
(I said oerclock because im at my friends house where the letter after U in the alphabet doesn't work. neither does the backspace or backslash... yay mac keyboard)
