So I have an xfx 4770, and whenever I overclock, performance suffers in games. The weird part though, is that I can go from 750/800 to 875/1020, and furmark performs a bunch better, and stable for even half an hour, no fps drop whatsoever. minimum fps goes up to 43 from 32, and max fps goes up to 85 from 60 something (can't remember). I'm at a loss. help please?
tl;dr Overclock is amazing in furmark, performs a lot worse in games though.

I've also monitored temps, gpu never hits over 64C with the fan on 80%. I put heatsinks on the memory and now they never hit higher than 70C, before they would hit 80+.
your overclocking utility might not be saving your settings before you close it. Make sure it's saved before closing it if you do close it. Sometimes though, OC'ing can put too much load on it when playing a game and cause it to reset to defaults.
I guess I'll check again. With furmark the clocks don't down-cycle, in fact I'm monitoring them right now.
And performance gets mariginally worse/more stuttery than stock settings.
What happens if you lower the clocks to something like 825/900? Is the performance drop still there?
I'll go check and see. Might take me 10 or 15 minutes cuz i have to start a game up.
OH and performance really suffers when I put the gpu at a higher clock, say 850, and the memory is still at the stock 800. Seems the memory has to match the bandwidth of the gpu or it doesn't work well.

Just tried furmark with 825/900, performance is still great compared to stock settings. I'll go play bad company 2 and see what happens.
Also, no cpu bottleneck (I don't think) I have an athlon 240 @ 3.5GHz, stock is 2.8.

yup performance still droops. Took a little longer this time but yeah.
bump I wanna get this working :saddowns:
Put it up 5mhz at a time to see when you actually get the performance decrease.
