well I finally decided to myself a new monitor after borrowing a friend's old one for almost a year now. my budget would max at $160USD. I'm planning on buying it either later today or tomorrow so I would be purchasing it from Best Buy, Fry's, or MicroCenter.
so far I have these in mind:

if you need anymore info please let me know.
hmmm idk how good ASUS monitors are, but ive had a HP monitor before and never had any problems out of them, and i had a friend with a Dell monitor and as far as I know he still has it and it works.
ok, but I'm looking for opinion of the ones I posted above or for better recommendations.
You should go for a Dell monitor with IPS.

I personally got this as my latest monitor:

I know eMachines generally sucks, but I had one of their 19" monitors as my last one and it has lasted me 2+ years and is still working fine to this day, and it was cheap for a 23".
But in store, they're way more expensive.
I'm not fond of eMachines.
I'm thinking if getting this, http://www.frys.com/product/6260170?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Check out some Acer monitors. I have two (p215H and p201w) and I like them a lot. I have had the p201w for... probably 2 years by now. Runs at 1680x1050. No problems at all. Has connections for VGA and DVI.
I have had the p215H for a few months. Runs at 1920x1080. Has very good contrast, much better than the p201w. Has DVI connection, not sure if it has VGA. No problems thus far. I highly recommend both of them.

there really aren't any good monitors in the $160 range, just save up
I went ahead and bought this, http://www.frys.com/product/6206370?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
If you were just going to blow off any and all suggestions, then what was the point of this thread?
uh, none of the suggestions were helpful or relevant since no one read the OP.
and I needed the monitor ASAP so waiting wasn't really an option. I got the one I saw in store and liked the most.
Then either way this thread was pretty much pointless.
We all read OP, you just chose cheap shitty monitors so we didn't suggest any of them.
saw them in-store, none were shitty at all except for that HP one.
If you run VGA/HDMI, then check out some of the AOC range. I just picked up 2 21.5" (1920x1080) for $160 AUD Each, I'm not sure how cheap they would be in US retailers though. Probably around the $100 range. You could also grab a DVI-HDMI connector if you must have DVI.
Benq has heaps of 20" monitors for cheap.

good job wasting $160 when you could have saved up like $20 more and gotten a much better Samsung that's also LED backlit and supports 1920x1080.

I don't get why people just burn through money as soon as they come into it, and waste it on shitty products. If you're going to buy something, you should make sure it's quality.
