• Free Desktop Recording Software?

Hey guys, I want to record a photoshop video tutorial, but I can't find a good desktop recorder that doesn't have shitty capture quality or an obnoxious watermark. Could somebody help me out?
CamStudio is pretty good. Or was it Camtasia? One of those is the one I'm talking about.

With a good enough video card it's pretty good. [editline]01:10PM[/editline] Well it is for me...
I use fraps, it works really well, to be honest. Only problem is that the files are abit too high quality, so six seconds of uncompressed footage is about 600gb, but once converted in the windows movie maker, it's four megabytes, tops.

CamStudio has a lossless codec available for download; it will record in very high quality, but the file size is going to be bigger. It's here under "Lossless Codec."

Besides, I still only have the trial version (I'm cheap) so I would need to record in 30 second increments. With Camstudio I was having a little bit of slowness and my cursor was flickering.

I doubt that it should be much of a problem.

EDIT: Just tried a test recording again, the quality is a little bit better, good enough to work with, but it's still pretty muddled. Is there an option I can set or a file I can save it as that would help? Or is this as good of quality I'm going to be able to get?
What kind of computer are you using?

EDIT: Alright, there we go. The video quality is perfect. Thanks for all the help guys!
I use hypercam, only downside is you get an annoying HYPERCAM UNREGISTERED at the top right corner of all your vids.
I usually use Fraps
Windows Media Encoder is good. It's not supported anymore though which is a shame, because Expression Studio replaced it and it's absolute garbage.

Apparently the new Windows Media Encoder (MS Expression Encoder) has screen capture. Free version 10 mins, but that should be enough for most purposes.
The old Windows Media Encoder 9 had screencapture too, that was like 6 years ago.
That was never apparent.
Looks like they don't let people download it anymore: http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/Encoder4_Overview.aspx
That's because Expression Encoder is a replacement.
I don't see the tick for recording desktop for fraps :o [editline]08:56PM[/editline] Oh, I need vista/7 for it :/
