I built my first PC yesterday and I ran Prime95 to check if the processor is OK. I over clocked to 4.2GHZ and when I ran the program, temps get up into 90 degrees celsius. I ran IntelBurnTest and my PC shut off.
I have a Hyper 212 EVO and a 4670K. What could be doing this?
There is also big temperature differences on the cores, more than 10c.
Either you didn't mount the cooler properly or your CPU has shit thermal paste between the CPU die and the CPU heat spreader. If it's the former, try remounting the CPU cooler. If it's the latter, you'll have to RMA the CPU. That is unless you want to try the dangerous process of de-lidding the CPU and replacing the shit thermal compound.
Perhaps you applied the thermal paste a little thick?
