If players are aware regarding this issuse and are aware what catbot is, then where is the problem? Why would you name yourself like that?
Because not every single one of Team Fortress 2's current 67,844 daily players know what the program catbot is or does. More importantly, it's a ban that affects every single account based on characters in their username (affecting people with innocuous usernames such as "catbottom", for example) that can easily be circumvented (and already has been by the bot developer), and, perhaps most importantly, VAC should ban based on cheat detection. Not choice of name.

Am I alone in thinking that VAC has no reason to be so easy to bypass?

I am not sure if the rumour is true, but I have read through some youtubers comment on how most cheats run through a different OSI-model. VAC can only detect programs that run in the Application Layer.
valve are saying that this is false https://np.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/7ndjdt/valve_will_vac_ban_you_automatically_for_having/ds2dulw?utm_source=reddit-android

[editline]2nd January 2018[/editline]
valve are saying that this is false https://np.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/7ndjdt/valve_will_vac_ban_you_automatically_for_having/ds2dulw?utm_source=reddit-android
That's great news to hear. As a system administrator and more who's worked with tons of anti spam systems and anti malware stuff, it would've been a very stupid thing to implement in every single way.
What is catbot and why do people name themselves catbot? I'm confused
What is catbot and why do people name themselves catbot? I'm confused
I am gonna assume it's a script that creates new Linux account and by default named it catbot and installed steam/tf2 on it and ran aimbot or whatever the fuck it runs.
