• Recommended firewalls?

Recently I've notice that my computer is infected. This isn't a good sign, so I will need to reinstall windows again, but this time I will install a good programs to prevent it. Anyone recommends a good firewall?
All I use is Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, and I haven't gotten a virus in over a year. Like Wormy said, common sense is really your best weapon against viruses and malware.
Maybe all you need is a good antivirus program, how do you know your computer got infected because of your firewall? Also I don't really think you need to get a firewall if you already use Windows Firewall. However if you really really want one then I can suggest the full version of Avast which comes with a firewall (the free version does not come with a firewall for your information). Personally I only use MalwareBytes (the paid version, cost me around 15 dollars) which does not include a firewall, but I haven't had any problems with viruses or attacks. And no offence, but if you don't want to get infected again just use common sense (don't enter shady sites, don't download a bunch of stuff that you cannot trust 100%, etc). You will be surprised how much this helps.
I've noticed that some programs and games started to not work properly. I assume there IS something that affects those changes.
This is what I did. I installed a cracked windows 7. It's all awesome and stuff and it works perfectly fine. After that I installed AVG 2015 Free, 1 month. You can get this one their site. It's a try-out thing and has all the features (I believe) to keep you safe for a month. In this month I downloaded everything I needed. (Steam, Skype, Gyazo, etc.) After that, I just let it slide. I don't have any anti-virus cuz I don't download stupid shit. But, I'm not a PC-Gamer. I hardly go on my PC and if I do it's for homework/skype/Games on steam. If you are though, I would suggest getting one . You might still need to pay abit, but if it's permanent it will be worth it. If you are a hardcore gamer , and you download all kinds of shit, even torrented stuff, I would definetely suggest getting one. Goodluck mate. [editline]20th December 2014[/editline] Oh, and by the way: AVG . It always worked perfectly fine for me. It's great. (User was banned for this post ("Warez" - Orkel))

If you can't even be bothered paying for an OS, then I doubt you pay for your software nor singleplayer games. If you run a cracked Windows 7 on a virtual box for whatever reason I could see why you'd pirate it, but not as your primary OS.
I think piracy is kinda shitty but this isn't the thread for a debate on that
If you're behind a router there's really not that much need. They normally have adequate firewalls for what you need. Windows Defender is more than enough on your desktop. Even that isn't that necessary. If you want to be paranoid there's always Comodo Firewall.
