Budget is £200 at a stretch, looking to getting new graphics card(s) as my 8800gt (256mb) is starting to get a bit outdated and it's pretty much the only thing left to upgrade, have a good enough PSU to support sli/crossfire. Had read that 4850 crossfire is great for their price but was looking for someone elses input!
I think 2x4850 is a great choice
whats your monitors res?

do you mean 2 4850's in crossfire or a 4850x2?
1920x1200 (and second monitor at 1280x1024)
and yeah 4850 crossfire
what i was thinking is that you can buy a 5770 for £116 here and when you get the extra £20 or so spend the rest on another and crossfire it

spend a little more for that 5850, anything less isn't really worth the cost for the performance gain you get

Cost performance wise,
crossfired 4850s and 5770s are more powerful for the money than 5850.
limiting crossfire future upgrades, increased power usage, requirements etc.
like i said, power usage etc isn't an issue for crossfire
