I'm not referring to immature morons on the net who can't be assed to reach two inches across their keyboards and hit one or two keys that would make their writing coherent, I'm referring to the people who write articles, reports, and so-called formal essays with spelling and grammar that'd make any normal person cringe. I wouldn't hold it against people who have a different first language or who are relatively new to English, either. But when you've been living in a Western, English-speaking country all your life, and so have your parents before you, when you speak English at home and don't know any other languages, do you really have an excuse for being unable to spell simple, everyday words in English? I don't know whether other people feel the same about this, but I believe the standard of education in Canada and the United States is slipping. I've got a lot of love for the English language because of how versatile it is; because of how a single well-picked word can imply a hidden meaning, because of Shakespeare and Orwell and all the rest. Dickens sucks, though. Anyway, I was born in India. I grew up in Hindi, Konkani and Arabic-speaking countries, and then I came to Canada at the age of thirteen. Nearly everyone in the United Arab Emirates can write in English almost immaculately by the time they're eleven. I suppose this post has no real point. I'm just frustrated at something I don't fully understand. Does anyone else share my perspective?
:irony:
It's an expression. I'm not posting in the manner of a formal essay.

Hate to be the one too break the news.... Welcome to the internet. We've come this half assed so far ,and we are aiming for a quarter assed. I do agree though. I'm getting sick of people who come onto game servers ,and act as if they've never taken one single English class in their life.
I agree with you position. It's quite true.
People as a whole are stupid, the sooner you learn this the easier it will be. <-- Satan approves of this message.
:irony:
You seem to misunderstand that North Americans NEVER say "Arse." Americans say "ass." Therefore, this is is not a spelling error but rather a cultural difference, you dummyhead.
I think we Brits are the ones most guilty of this actually. ive sen posts like this that use the por grammer an it was cuz of the brits that posted it. But I do agree, you don't have to use completely perfect grammar, but at least type or write in a language people can understand.

Where's the stupid rating? [editline]01:13AM[/editline] Ah, there it is. You get a box.

No, I was trying to say 'assed', which is another way to say 'bothered'. Therefore, I was trying to say "Can't be bothered.' Have another box, Pigeon.
Assed is NOT another way to say bothered. You're just being stupid now.
Assed is NOT another way to say bothered. You're just being stupid now.
Hold on, you'll be surprised at how many Disagrees that gets you. It's called slang.

Did you need to make a thread about it? Deal w/it
Fucking hell, will you all get over the proper use of "assed" as a figure of speech already? The OP spent time typing up his long post intending to have a formal discussion over the misuse of semantics in the English language, and your all bickering over one word in his post.
