And this is why you're not allowed to just fly stuff everywhere. I'd imagine a drone strike and a bird strike to be very similiar in terms of planes like these, though.
Except if a lipo battery gets sucked into the engine, it would explode violently.
Oh right. Makes for an even more compelling argument as to why be hardasses about where you can fly drones, then.
Except if a lipo battery gets sucked into the engine, it would explode violently.
Any big object being sucked into the engine is bad news. Whether or not it's a LiPo battery hardly matters.
Hopefully we'll never find out how much damage a drone causes to an engine.

I know they explode, but a jet engine wouldn't care about the tiny fire a LiPo would discharge. The main issue is that you have a bigass object being churned through the blades.

It absolutely matters, the explosion would likely be drastically worse than the one showed in that webm, you don't just run the risk of it breaking the turbines you run the risk of it blowing a hole in something important.
I wish news sites would be more specific in their headlines, I thought they were talking about a collision with one of these [t]http://axisphilly.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/7414675214_29498fb057_h1-1022x620.jpg[/t] not one of these [t]http://aeroquad.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=7091&d=1375885270[/t] which is a pretty huge fucking difference.

Though I suppose it would be pretty bewildering if the US was flying a predator drone near a UK airport anyhow
