Okay, I'm currently in the process of moving hard disks (the old windows was corrupt). Unfortunately, the files in my old documents can't be accessed (described as 0 bytes and access is denied). How can I retrieve these?
Have you tried using a Linux Live system? (Ubuntu or Knoppix are pretty good)

Download, burn to disk. Boot from disk at start up. Then use them to access whatever you are trying to access and move it to the new place you want them.
Probably EFS encryption
