Chinese authorities have banned women in Urumqi, the capital city of Xinjiang-an autonomous western region where Muslims account for almost half of the population-from wearing burqas in public, according to a brief article on a government-run website, Tianshan News. Local legislators for Urumqi proposed the ban in December, and now the regional legislature has approved it.
Source
I am surprised they didn't do it sooner.
afaik Chinese Muslims don't wear burqas anyway
Chinese authorities have banned women
Impressive.
Impressive.
Not really, I banned women from my pillow fort when I was a kid
Impressive.
They're saving that plan for 2020.
Not really, I banned women from my pillow fort when I was a kid
Terrifying
why is this getting winners? preventing someone from wearing something is good? [editline]12th January 2015[/editline]
Xinjiang officials later banned students and civil servants from fasting for Ramadan, and authorities in the Xinjiang city of Karamy barred anyone wearing burqas, niqabs, hijabs or simply “large beards” from taking public buses.
is this good too?
why is this getting winners? preventing someone from wearing something is good? [editline]12th January 2015[/editline] is this good too?
It is when it's [del]die untermenschen[/del] dem ebil mooslams.
This really isn't a good thing. This isn't China sticking up for poor oppressed Muslim women, this is China trying to suppress any culture that isn't 100% Chinese.
This really isn't a good thing. This isn't China sticking up for poor oppressed Muslim women, this is China trying to suppress any culture that isn't 100% Chinese.
Sensationalized though, if they had instead gone with "China has banned Muslims from public displays of religion and religious attire" people wouldn't be even batting an eye
yet this is ok edit: if you actually miss the point of this post then I'm baffled. wow ok next time you protect your face, I'm going to accuse you of wearing a burka.
This really isn't a good thing. This isn't China sticking up for poor oppressed Muslim women, this is China trying to suppress any culture that isn't 100% Chinese.
Have you considered that maybe a lot of Muslim women are okay with wearing traditional religious garb?
yet this is ok
Probably because China's air is SHIT...
afaik Chinese Muslims don't wear burqas anyway
the people that this is affecting are western Uyghur muslims who are ethnically turkic and very much -stani people
Probably because China's air is SHIT...
but a burka is also a piece of cloth over the mouth, you've done nothing but target cultures m8.
afaik Chinese Muslims don't wear burqas anyway
According to Reddit[sp]lol[/sp]Uighur women are being forced to wear these instead of these, hence the ban?
I honestly thought that China had no freedom of religion in the first place but there you go.
yet this is ok
you would do the same thing, shit a fucking kid at age 5 in Beijing she got lung cancer now so yea I say wearing the mask is a good idea.
you would do the same shit fuck kid at age 5 in Beijing got lung cancer now so yea I say wearing the mask is a good idea.
you have banned a piece of cloth over the face. why are you twisting the point completely...
Have you considered that maybe a lot of Muslim women are okay with wearing traditional religious garb?
...yes. Hence why I'm arguing against the people who will assume that this ban is a good thing because they think that any woman in a burka was forced into it at gunpoint.
but a burka is also a piece of cloth over the mouth, you've done nothing but target cultures m8.
Wow, way to massively trivialise what a Burqa is. In some places women can't leave their house without wearing one, women have been killed for refusing to wear it - hardly just a piece of cloth over the mouth.
you have banned a piece of cloth over the face. why are you twisting the point completely...
You're taking this from a perspective so shallow that it borders on being parallel to the point entirely. People wear burqas for religious reasons. They carry religious implications that, understandably, some people take an affront to. People wear facemasks because A.) The air can legitimately be shit, B.) there's the big panics about pandemics and C.) much like always sneezing into your hand or a tissue rather than the open air, in China it's common etiquette to wear a facemask whenever you're sick and need to go somewhere.
you have banned a piece of cloth over the face. why are you twisting the point completely...
I'm sure everybody will like it when people start wearing balaclavas in public. No reason we shouldn't it's just a piece of cloth.
you have banned a piece of cloth over the face. why are you twisting the point completely...
becasue the mask in the picture protects them somewhat crap getting into. I was not even talking about wether the burqa is good or bad that I was just talking about why the masks in you're picture are a good idea to wear because it may reduce all that crap in the air getting into there system.
Wow, yeah it's fantastic that they're forcing people to reject their religion, that's awesome! Wait who does that sound like....
but a burka is also a piece of cloth over the mouth, you've done nothing but target cultures m8.
Are you really comparing a piece of cloth that covers the whole face except the eyes (when it doesn't just cover up the whole face) that is used because of "muh culture", to an item that is used because its an actual health need against the hazardous air that only covers the mouth and wouldn't be used at all if there wasn't what's basicaly poisonous gas all over China's cities?
According to Reddit[sp]lol[/sp]Uighur women are being forced to wear these instead of these, hence the ban?
this is a very very important difference
Wow, way to massively trivialise what a Burqa is. In some places women can't leave their house without wearing one, women have been killed for refusing to wear it - hardly just a piece of cloth over the mouth.
It's not your place to take control of a culture though. These people have lived and breathed Islam and now something as superficial as a cloth is getting people so worked up about it. And not every religious person is held up at gun point.. [editline]12th January 2015[/editline]
You're taking this from a perspective so shallow that it borders on being parallel to the point entirely.
Good, I think people need to really see how shallow this ban really is.
So what good will banning the burqa do?
