• Budget GPU?

My sister recently got a new monitor, because her old 1280x1024 17'' was too small. Her new one is 1920x1080 and now she can't play WoW in windowed mode on highest resolution with more than 25FPS. She's using her old screen too, so she needs to play in borderless windowed mode to switch between monitors. Her specs: Core2Quad Q6600 3GB DDR2 RAM A FSP Group 400W PSU Geforce 8600GT I thought maybe a Radeon 4850 might be the right GPU for her. It' about 100€ and that's her budget. Is that not enough/too much for just playing WoW on 1920x1080?
thats a great card, go for it :) or if you want something better you could add a few tenners and get a 4870 instead.
It can do a shit load more than WoW, get it.
With that Card you can run every game here iwith high settings.! Go for it. Or if you have a bunch more $$$ then go for a 4870, the increase is noticeable
Ok, thanks for you suggestions guys. I'll ask her if she wants the 4870 later. Edit: Ok, she'll get the 4850. But I have one more concern. Is her PSU sufficient?
As long as its OK qualiy, check the amps on the 12v rails.
I don't see even a mediocre 400W having issues with a 4850.
Newegg says: "450 Watt or greater power supply with 75 Watt 6-pin PCI Express power connector recommended" My sister's PSU has 400 Watt. And this stands on it too: +12V1: 20A -12V: 0,5A, +12V2: 16,04A (3,3V&+5V=130W Max) (+12V1&+12V2=324W Max)
20A on the +12V rail is pushing it, but you should be A-OK.
If she would get the 4870, what PSU would you recommend?
If she would get the 4870, what PSU would you recommend?
A good brand 500 watt power supply with two pci-e power connectors should do.
4850 / 4770 are budget cards.

What the fuck, the jihad brand has more amps on the rails than my 700 watt OCZ.
Yeah, except they're on the 3.3V and 5V rails. That's shit power distribution, at least for 2009. [editline]05:27PM[/editline] Back in 2001, when everything ran off the 3.3V and 5V rails, that would be good.
I've seen 58A on the 5v rail, what the shit?

No, yours should be fine. And why would you rate me dumb without posting why? Jackasses.
