• Animal lover hypocrisy?

Why is it that animal lovers in Facepunch are huge meat eaters even though they rage at the slightest hint of animal abuse? Pigs for an example, are smarter than dogs and cats, and are around as smart as a primate but and nobody ever complains when a nice sizzling dish of bacon is grilled, although when theres a video of people eating dogs in China, everyone goes batshit crazy over how "barbaric" the asian people are. I assume that everyone on Facepunch values a life on how smart it is, so why is it that eating meat is acceptable to you guys? EDIT I'm not a vegetarian, i'm probably the most farthest away from being a vegetarian.

because my bacon comes from pigs that were thrown into a raging ricer
I have no problem with people eating animals, or even hunting. I just care if the animal was killed quick and painlessly, and for a reason. Killing for the sake of killing is kinda sadistic. If you're going to kill a deer, eat it. If your going to kill a fish, eat it. If not then just let it be. I'm also against killing endangered animals for any reason. As well of all forms of overfishing or unsustainable hunting in general.
It's because if we feel the same way about our food as we did our pets, we would not survive, we have evolved to feel like that. I could never hunt, ever, ever, but I would eat freshly hunted meat my friend got.
Killing for food and killing for fun are two completely different things.
Because, killing and abusing an animal, non-human or otherwise for just shits and giggles, is just plain wrong. While they may not be as intelligent, they still experience pain and terror the same as we do. After all, most food animals are killed in a humane way, with the exception of chickens, fish, and kosher meats.
I don't love pigs or cows, and I could never imagine myself eating cats or dogs.
Pigs killed my family and I will have my bacon in this life or the next
Whether or not someone gets pissed off about an animal being killed relies on a logical and rational basis of outrage. It can be quantified and used as a guideline if you're unsure whether to be pissed off. Intelligence of animal: Hive Mind: 1 point Plain stupid: 2 points Intelligent: 4 points Loveably stupid: 5 points Value as staple of human agriculture: Necessary: 1 point Valueless: 5 points Availability of animal: Not endangered: 1 point Endangered: 5 points Cuteness of animal: Ugly as a fucking baboon or has creepy tusks, more than four legs, or is dirty: 0 points Dog, Cat: 45 points Puppy: 55 points Kitten: 65 points Now we can add it up! Less than 30 points: It's just an animal, who cares More than or equal to 30 points: THIS FUCKER NEEDS TO BE CASTRATED, BURN HIS FUCKING HOUSE DOWN
I feel your pain OP, all these PETA faggots, trying to take away MY RIGHT to shoot small mammals in the face. Fucking despicable. Brb eating beard.
You obviously haven't seen Erik Nilsson proffessional dead animal drummer.
Because it's not about the value of the animals life, it's about someone taking pleasure from the animal's suffering.
Very well said sir.
The whole human generation hasn't been raised to eat cats and dogs, we feel affection for them, a dog for example, every family sees it as a member of their family, not just an animal, pigs and cows I feel no affection for them because they taste good and are dumb and everybody has been raised to eat them. Although, I did feel sorta bad when me and my dad stole my auntie's pet pig and took it to a slaughterhouse to be turned into bacon, there was a reason behind it, she wasn't looking after well and not feeding it often, so we put it out of it's misery and got lotsa free bacon.

I do think it's a little hypocritical, but if people are caring for the well being of animals, at all, it's a good thing. [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] Actually, OP wasn't all that bad. I'm sorry. [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] But you sound like someone who went 'vegetarian' yesterday and still eats fish and is outraged about everyone else's hypocrisy. [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] I'll still be your friend [img]http://static.facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/img].
A sad occurance while working at my cash registers: Customer: uh, sir, do you eat meat? Me: um, yes? Customer: then please dont likc your finger before touching the bag please. Me: uh, ok I'm all for animal rights ect. but some vegetarians just take it to rage-worthy lengths.
quickly killing a pig to use for food =/= torturing and killing a cat for no reason other than pleasure.
Wouldn't it be obviously why people would be shocked if they found out people were eating dogs? A different culture of people eating animals we would otherwise not eat, the same reason why we find people eating grubs and insects disgusting and repulsive. ~culture shock~ Get informed.
What would all the cows and pigs and other things do if we weren't killing them for food? Would they become wild animals?

Cattle is stunned with a bolt to the head, which damages the brain but keeps the animal alive, and then they're bled to death. I like a good steak but I try not to hold misbeliefs about how the animals I'm eating were treated.
Another kid who doesn't understand the reason why Facepunch gets so angry over animal death or cruelty.
We need a way to grow bacon and ribs.
Stem cells and cloning? Hopefully in the future there will be 'Grow Your Own Bacon!' kits, what a nice future that would be.
We need a way to grow bacon and ribs.
It's called a pig.
Chicken are actually quite smart little did you know. They are known to quickly get though mazes, using tools like a crow for their own advantage, and have a more 'creative' brain than most species of Parrot. But who wants to eat a Parrot? They mimic human sounds, thus it's morally wrong to eat them. Makes perfect sense.

I got into that issue in this thread. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1024910-Astrology-signs It's amazing how hostile people can be when defending their love for KFC and the like. But it's selective, it's true. Why do some people choose to eat this animal but pet this animal? What makes that okay, if it has floppy ears, if it has a wagging tail, if it tastes good? It is barbaric, just as barbaric and eating a dog. Seriously, I wonder what the meat-eater's criteria is when they choose which animals are appropriate to eat or not.

[editline]19th November 2010[/editline] There is no criteria.
Other cultures have bred different species of animals to eat for just as long too though. :3
I do not get how much compassion people have for animals in general. And having eaten both dog and cat down in mexico I can tell you they taste just as good as other darker meats. I personally have a dog as a pet as well as a cat but I do not consider them "family members" they are just pets. My old friend from Uni had a theory about people projecting their needs for social acceptance onto animals so people who are not largely popular with their peers tend to latch onto animals more so then socially active and accepted people.
