Hello guys, English is not my first language, so please dont be mad if I make mistakes here.
Isn't your facebook full of these als ice bucket challenges from teenagers who think that its cool to sprinkle themselves with water? I don't know what do you think, but I think that they DO NOT donate anything.
They just seek for attention. It makes me mad. ;/
I suppose that out of all the collective pool of money that is donated to research all diseases, each disease has its fair share of money it ought to receive. Though it's impossible to find the exactly fair proportions, I'm suspicious that this challenge is pushing the envelope for ALS beyond its deserved value for th e sake of frivolous things like Facebook likes and Reddit upvotes.
Of course it's never not good to donate money to anything I suppose though. It just might have a better place or disease to go to.
I mean mate, they just seek for attention, and 80% have no Idea what is that disease...
Well teenagers generally usually do stuff to seek attention and validation from other teenagers, because they're teenagers. Not really that big of a deal tbh happens all the time
some of them do it for attention, but it means that more people see it, then do it themselves, meaning that overall, there's more chance that more people will see
Why do they tag ALS Ice bucket challenge in vids?
They can simply tag as Icebucket challenge. Without that ALS
Not all of the money goes to ALS research anyway.

I don't think you understand the point
It's to promote awareness of the disease. If they didn't tag it with ALS then it's an even more pointless video.
Think of it this way, did you think about ALS before this whole ice bucket challenge craze? If not, then it is working, whether or not attention seeking teens donate money or not.
Here in the UK, Macmillan (largest cancer charity here, I think) have subtly hijacked a large part of the fad, and as a result many people who think they're doing for challenge for ALS charities are unaware they're donating to Macmillan instead. I honestly think that's quite a sly move on their part; they're a good cause and it's great they're raising money, but misleading people is just not the way to do it. Especially since they're taking away from a cause which rarely gets publicity .

You can select to have it all spent on research on the donation page?????
Who cares if it's a fad and people do it to garner attention, it's still raising money

Holy shit don't say that please, you just make yourself look like every rich guy who refused to donate to whatever charity because of greed masked by "bah! administrative fees!"
There's efficient charities and there's inefficient charities - if it's inefficient then back it up.
I just did it for fun. I jumped of a pier. Wouldn't have done it if I hadn't been nominated. Didn't donate.
It's certainly brought ALS into the limelight. Although I would have rathered it stayed a celebrity thing rather than getting the public involved.
Does the us have govt budget for healthcare? It should give a bigger percentage of it to cure research, because last I've heard the hospitals are privately-run.
So basically everyone would donate(unwillingly, through their taxes) to a bunch of medical research...
I did it purely because two girls asked me if I wanted to do it with them and I went along with it. I plan on donating some dosh when I get the chance though.
I didn't know what ALS was or the symptoms of it before this started happening.
In my eyes, a successful campaign.
Slacktivism can be painful to see sometimes but in Canada it raised about 10 million for ALS.

We all saw the foundation's page. 60% of the money goes to other programs, 10% goes to employees, and 7% goes to actual research. What the hell are other programs? That could be anything.
