Elite really needs the option to walk around your ship and stations and on the surface, too. Are they charging for this addition?
If Horizons is the planet one, isn't it like £40 or something. I remember a while ago the stink when they brought out the cost of all the DLC being really damn expensive, considering the games state with not much in it, or to do.

Elite is not a bad game it just lacks variety in content. I actually played it too much during Beta and burned myself out pretty fast. The recent patches and changes are good but the game is still lacking content in my opinion. Charging £40 for this is stupid, mostly because this is something that probably should have been part of the main game and will be pretty boring again after the first handful of planets.
I also don't feel like spending $45 on planets when Space Engineers just got them for free and the only thing I can't do on them is trade
i don't see why this should be cost i mean after all its their only source of extra income and servers are free
Other games push updates for free though, because their base game is good enough to bring in people, and they market other features like cosmetics, boosters, or things that you can ultimately achieve anyways in game. Considering that the developers of Elite do part of the latter (they have a marketplace for the game), they must either be very greedy or are not making enough period which is kinda corollary with the game not being that great enough to sell.
yes because all other games have servers to keep up and people must not need wages i mean after all their kickstarter did as well as star citizens
i don't see why this should be cost i mean after all its their only source of extra income and servers are free
It is, from what we have seen so far, a fairly hollow update to a hollow game. I don't mind paying for expansions, but I want to get my money's worth. Instead of being a mile wide and an inch deep, it'll be two miles wide and an inch deep. Instead of exploring featureless empty space, I get to explore featureless brown/gray/blue planets. The rovers look fun to drive and that's about it. They have extra sources of income; in-game skins sold for $5 and up, merchandise, etc.
They always loved their premium prices. The alpha back in the days was £200 and the beta was £100. That probably explains why they just go for a fully fledged £40. Doesn't make it any better, just might explain it.
Didn't they say that they'd eventually add atmospheric planets later on?

Also, you already seemed to disregard what I said about them still making income off of their market place. They had people prepurchaseing the game funding the development, as well as money before that from kickstarter. Further, there is also the retail release of the game which they incurred income from as well. Unless they decided to throw away all the revenue, they could still afford to pay their employees as well as pay for servers for a while.

Fuck them for being successful and give frontier extreme amounts of money for no content.
...what? I really can't tell if you're trolling or not. I supported both games because both games are takes on the genre of game that I like. I support developers that do things I like. I supported Elite initially because it looked to be like a fun space sim with good combat. Despite having built a good infrastructure, they seem to be taking a less than ideal development approach going forward, hence my skepticism and not caring to buy this expansion, or at the very least at its current price. I won't defend them for no reason lol. As far as SC, they aim for an overly ambitious game that would ideally be much more than Elite, as well as tries to cater to many different audiences, or at least more than ED tried to market to. I support them too because I want what they ultimately are trying to make. You call the community "scam citizen assholes", but its only a scam if you go full retard and buy the game expecting it to be out in a fortnight and currently be finished development. Kickstarter isn't a store front-end.
Should have made my sarcasm more clear, sorry. I love both games, and both have undesirable community members. I don't like frontier's business model, but the game itself is hella fun. Wasn't making fun of you, I was making fun of the guy you replied to since he was ripping on you for daring to speak against frontier in some way.

In retrospect it seems really obvious, my bad.

The fact there is a retail release is just another way to get the game. Its not constant income its single income. Companies need R&D money to work.
