I know I won't get an absolutely fantastic one for this amount of money, but I want the best one I can get. I currently have the 512mb nVidia 9500 GT model and am looking for something considerably better that can handle recent games at at least medium.
My 4670 Was 60 Euro and runs TF2 on V.High at 60~ fps
It will vary on your resolution I'm at 1280x800

For £50 you wont be hitting medium on recent games. You best bet for cheap n powerful would be http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/gpu-amd/ati-radeon-hd5770-pci-e-(800-cores)

I've heard they are pretty good, I looked at the ATI page had way too much :techno: compared to the nvidia page for my current card and I couldn't compare them very well besides the obvious RAM difference.
It's better than your current card.

I owned a 4670, very nice card for the price. I paid about $70usd for mine and it has served me well at 1440x900 with a combination of good fps and visuals.
I'm running 1280x1024 (i didn't choose it, ok!) and am using a VGA cable. To be honest, I just want something that will run Brink...
