• Gaming Laptop. $1000 Budget

So, I'm planning on getting a new laptop in the near future, because my crappy Dell was old the second I bought it. I plan on not making that mistake again. So, here's the kind of computer I'm looking for: Conforms to the $1000 budget. Going a little over is a possibility, but, only if it is needed. The following games will be played on it, on the best possible settings that the computer can handle: Crysis (and Warhead) All of Valve's games Bioshock DiRT And possibly others... (Please don't use the games a rule. By this I mean that I don't need all the games to be on high; heck, I can play Crysis on this computer; it isn't pretty, but it can. I only added this because from previous threads I have gathered that you guys like to know what games will be played.) OK, now for the computer specs themselves. They can be divided into three categories. Things that the computer must have. 17" Screen. Keyboard with a number-pad. (Most 17" laptops have these, but I want to ensure that my computer has one.) At least 4GB of RAM. Must be 64bit. (Hardware and OS)(For 4GB of RAM you would think this would be a given, but you would be surprised what some places will sell you.) Things I would like to have. An eSATA port. (It seems a lot of modern laptops have these, and currently I'm running all my games off of and external HDD through a eSATA to Express Slot card, so I would like to be able to plug my HDD directly into the computer.) The power cables port and the Ethernet port to be on the back of the computer. (I've seen quite a few laptops that have moved all of their ports to the sides, and to be honest, I think it's stupid.) A CD drive located on the left of the computer. (I've always hated this. On most laptops, it's on the right, so when you open it it interferes with your mouse. The crappy Dell I'm using now actually has all of the drives and ports in the exact place I'd want them. Go figure.) A back-lit keyboard would be cool, although I doubt I'll get this. A fast HDD. (This is borderline must. I do not care if the HDD is large; that's what my external is for. I've lived fine with 70GB internal. By fast, I mean 7200RPM+.) Things that are not needed/wanted. Mice/Other Keyboards/Cases/Other (I don't really want any extra fluff; I'd like all the money to go towards to computer. A webcam. I know most laptops have these build in nowadays, but I would have no use for one. If the laptop has one, that's fine, but I don't need it. Word. If the laptop comes with Word, that would be nice, but I can probably use the Word from this computer. Other notes: Sorry for the wall of text, but I see most threads like this die from lack of info. I may have left something out, so yea... Also, inb4 TL;DR.
tl;dr o right gateway P series are great (FX..) Another great ones are those MSI umm, forgot the name, but they are really good. Gateway P series all the way, they are pricey, 1250 over budget, but so damn great. edit; why not get a desktop? with that kind of cash, and a microcenter nearby ,you could build a great Q9550 or AMD phenom x4 SLI/Crossfire setup for that cash.
Don't waste your money, just had a friend of mine blow off $2,200 on a "gaming laptop" with a battery life of one hour and he wants to take it everywhere, I told him he was a dumbass. Hit up HP, 17'' laptops give you an option to use better graphic cards, but there is no gaming laptop for $1,000, good luck

To power "gaming" quality parts, you need a lot more power than just intergrated graphics. Finding a laptop capable of all the OP's specs is nigh impossible for 1000. (lol crysis)

It seems when you guys read "gaming computer" you assume, "Top of the line computer." I'm am simply looking for something that would come as close to the above specs as possible. Also, I was thinking it shouldn't be too hard. My sister recently purchased a laptop for $400 that included a 17" screen, the keyboard that I wanted, 3GB of ram, and a processor comparable to mine. I was hoping that for over double that price, I could get 1 more GB of RAM and some slight hardware upgrades. Also, for those of you who say I should "Get a desktop." that is simply not an option. I am at school, in a dorm room as I am typing this. For my purposes, "the best laptop I can get" and "gaming computer" are interchangeable." Lastly, I didn't say anything about battery life, so don't use that as a factor.
Why not get that ASUS ION netbook or the lenovo ion netbook that can game and have decent battery life at the same time if its for school aswell [editline]11:54AM[/editline] or have a look at the ASUS series of gaming laptops :buddy:
Alls I can say is get an Acer Aspire 6935g It won't play Crysis on full, medium perhaps, but all those other games you mentioned it'll run fine, PLUS it's only about 650 dollars, I was SO happy with mine, amazing buy.
Why would you bother gettting a alptop?

Lets wait for acer hate :bandwagon: I would advise op to get one, but he should get a cooler as well 'cos my acer gets pretty hot (60+ on idle).
That Acer looks pretty good, but how does this look to you guys: https://www.sagernotebook.com/process_cart.php?xcSID=br88nmo2iaohqaojchajlqp184 [editline]04:03AM[/editline] Appears to have almost everything I want... :D (Minus the port placement; oh well.) Anyone here had any experience with Sager Notebooks?

Battery life doesn't matter if you are always near a power outlet... But it really depends where you are taking the laptop.
