• Speakers on a $130 budget

For about a week now, I've been trying to find a 2.0 or 2.1 speaker setup to use with my computer, and I'm still not quite sure of what to get. Preferably, I'm looking for something with good overall sound quality that isn't lacking on bass. The M-Audio AV40s were particularly appealing out of all the products I looked at, but they might not be the best choice. I really have no idea. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
If you can squeeze 20$ more: http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340885607&sr=8-1&keywords=klipsch+promedia

Definetly better than annything logitech can come up with for that price.
I don't really think I can manage putting another $20 towards them, but I'll keep them in mind. Thanks.
They have a refurbished pair on amazon for 128 if that helps. http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000062VUO/ref=dp_olp_refurbished?ie=UTF8&condition=refurbished
That's definitely something I can do. Would buying them used also be a viable option?

I'll probably being buying those either way. Problem solved, thanks QuikKill.

I can't believe we're still recommending ProMedias. They were introduced what, 12 years ago? I like them, but it's sad they weren't really improved upon. Not much for alternatives either.
Well, a new factor just got added into this. I've had to move some stuff around, so there isn't any space under my desk for a subwoofer now. That means I'm now only limited to 2.0 speakers with the same budget. My eye's back on the M-Audio AV40s, but I'd like to hear other suggestions if anyone has them.

All it really does is have a different shaped speaker housing. Thats it, took em 5 yeras to develop and sounds 99% the same.

Get this, http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-980-000402-Speaker-System-Z623/dp/B003VAHYTG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1340948917&sr=8-3&keywords=logitech+speakers If you play WW2 games or movies, you can finally feel your room shaking from a Tiger Tank.
The sub doesn't have to the on the floor, nothing stopping you from having it on the desk like some people do
I suppose I could try making room on my desk for it.
The sub doesn't have to the on the floor, nothing stopping you from having it on the desk like some people do
This is true because if its under 10" its not subwoofer. Its more like "additional bass". And if its not subwoofer, it doesn't matter where you put it.
This is true because if its under 10" its not subwoofer. Its more like "additional bass". They sound okay, but I've never ever liked the tiny satellite speaker + subwoofer combo. Need at least a 5" driver up top before it sounds natural to me. Klipsch makes decent dedicated speakers and subs, I figured they could have done better with these.

"A subwoofer (or "sub") is a woofer, or a complete loudspeaker, which is dedicated to the reproduction of low-pitched audio frequencies known as the "bass"." You can have a 1" speaker as a sub. Size doesn't make it a sub or not.

I cannot even imagine why people buy 5.1 systems like that.
a little above budget, http://www.theaudioinsider.com/product_info.php?loudspeakers=swan-active-desktop-sound&p=swan-d1010-iv-active-desktop-loudspeaker-system&cPath=21_24&products_id=166&osCsid=daf34948f485d369cc9e9d035d5b027f 160 dollars.
Yes but id say that if its under 10", its not real subwoofer.
Cone size doesn't matter. What matters if it actually can "produce" low range frequency sound waves without making it distorted and "muddy". I honestly prefer a dual 8" subwoofer set-up over 12" or 15" one's. They can easily reach the inaudible low frequency waves while still capable of delivering delicious kicks in the upper range. Even my current speakers sports dual 6,25" ported combo low-range and mid-range units each, and they can easily both deliver both rumble and kick without sounding like shit.

Can't find refurbs though. Speaking of Swans, does anyone know how the M10 stacks up to the Promedia speakers? edit: Problem finally solved, going to move some more stuff around so I can use the 5.1 system that I have linked to my TV. Still, I appreciate the help. If I ever need 2.1 speakers, I'll be referring back to this thread.
