Considering how biased and wrong GamerGate article on Wikipedia was (just one example), I am very skeptical.

the gamergate article on wikipedia is widely considered to be less of an article and more of a shitpit for those so inclined to fight it out by flinging shit at eachother, the rest of the place is fine (also noting a trend where people who cite or pursue gamergate in conversation of any given context being on the extreme ends of either side of the political spectrum and thus extremely biased when both presenting their views and percieving the views of others, normal people don't care about gamergate)
It's the example that most people in gaming are aware of but the problems with wikipedia are rooted much deeper than the gamergate article, there are similar debacles of varying gravity happening on every remotely controversial topic. You can see why this might be one hell of an issue in using the same principle on a news site.
To be fair it cant get much worse than most news sites, "saving journalism" though, is quite a stretch.
This could either be absolutely amazing or absolutely horrible.
