• I have a bunch of random tv series questions that i need help with

Howdy all. I don't watch a lot of TV; the only current shows I bother with are Castle, MythBusters, and Game of Thrones. Now, I also have some shows on hiatus - I stopped watching Prison Break a couple episodes into Season 2, I stopped watching Dexter a couple episodes into Season 4, I stopped watching Burn Notice at the end of last season, and I saw a few episodes of Modern Family and Breaking Bad. Should I continue with any of the ones I stopped watching? Breaking Bad was really good, as was Dexter. Prison Break turned weird when [sp]everyone was running around out of jail[/sp], Burn Notice is growing stale, but Modern Family seems funny. But I really want to watch another sci-fi series and a mystery series. I loved Firefly, and I was thinking about starting Battlestar Galactica. And has anyone seen Twin Peaks or X-Files? Both of those seem really interesting to me. Sorry for the textual assault, and thanks to anyone who can answer some of my questions.
Doctor Who. Go watch that, at least through the David Tennant era. For mystery the BBC Sherlock.
Twin Peaks and Xfiles are both awesome...to a point. Twin Peaks had a great first season, then went downhill. The network forced David Lynch to do the show the way they wanted and it fell apart. Still, that first batch of episodes is about as great as TV ever gets. X-files had two issues. One, they moved the show from Vancouver to Los Angeles and it changed the tone of the show. Then later one of the stars left the show and it wasn't the same. Then, they ended it lamely and it sort of spoiled the whole experience. Still, those first five seasons were great TV.
wow, twin peaks is one of the weirdest things i've ever seen
You might like Life on Mars (uk).
Breaking Bad is one of the best TV series ever, no doubt. Dexter goes downhill after season 4.
As for the X-Files, holy fuck that ending...what a disappointment that left me literally saying "Are you fucking kidding me. That's how you're going to end this show?" Breaking Bad, fucking incredible. Same goes for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Battlestar Glactica is absolutely brilliant. One of my favourite shows of all time. Fringe is another great sci-fi series. As for mystery, I'd definitely recommend Twin Peaks. As for more modern stuff, Homeland is just about the best thing on TV at the moment, closely followed by Breaking Bad. Sherlock is great too.
Definitely go watch Breaking Bad. I think that is the best show I've seen so far. Every season just gets better and better. Prison Break got worse with each season but I think the first 3 are still entertaining. The 4th season and the 2 movies(longer episodes) were pretty awful. Dexter went downhill after season 4. Season 5 and 6 are terrible but season 7 looks like the writers put their shit together and it's watchable to some extent. But who knows, maybe they'll fuck it up again. No one suggested Lost so try that show, the last 6th season unfortunately doesn't deliver all the answers and takes a bit of easy way out. But the journey to the last episode is enjoyable. It's also the only show that made me cry at few moments. And finally Stargate. It's a fun sci-fi show that gets better about 3rd-4th season in.
Doctor Who. Go watch that, From Eccleston to Tennant to Smith, all of it. For mystery the BBC Sherlock.
fixed that.
Eh, I didn't like the direction the writers took the show once Russell T. Davies left.
The X- Files is one the best shows I've ever seen, or it would have been if I would have stopped watching after season 4. As everybody says watch Breaking Bad, great show. You could try Arrested Development, funniest show imo.
Oh I almost forgot, for mystery you can't go past Lost. Brilliant series, even if it got a bit slow in season 3 and then a bit ridiculous in seasons 5 and 6
Game of Thrones is brilliant, no exactly sci-fi but fantasy. The story, characters and acting is brilliant, not one disappointing episode so far
Breaking Bad, definitely. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is good. Louie is amazing. In terms of older shows, Angel is pretty good, if you are into noir. Spaced is also good for comedy. And Firefly for sci-fi. [editline]31st October 2012[/editline] Also Mad Men.
Right now I'm watching the 2004 Battlestar Galactica it's amazing. Also watch Fringe, reminded me of X-files initially, but has expanded and has a really cool storyline.
BSG. really it kind of starts to go downhill in quality starting 3rd season. also the writer's strike ending is the only ending i'm willing to accept when they [sp]find "earth" for the first time[/sp]. anything after that didn't happen. because basically everything after that makes the entirety of what happened in the show a cosmic joke. and at that a cosmic joke that doesn't even make sense (like literally they just used a phrase [sp] mitocondrial eve[/sp]without knowing the meaning at all probably). at least the writer's strike ending was grim and no bullshit. i would have rather had that than the shit after.
Yeah, the third season of it BSG kinda lost me. I loved the first two, but the tone in the third made it like a completely different show to me. As far as the shows in the OP go: Prison Break gets so much worse as it goes. I stopped half way through the third season when [sp]They were in prison, again, this time in Central America. And he had to break out of prison, again.[/sp]. I'd finish season four of Dexter. It's a pretty solid season. Twin Peaks and X-Files are both two of my favorite shows, so I'm slightly biased when I recommend them. And Breaking Bad is the best show on tv, hands down. Also, it wasn't on your list but you should try and watch Homeland if you get the chance. It's the second best show on tv.
jerhico is good too.
i like the 3rd and 4th seasons of bsg. the first two seasons had disconnected episodes that were hit or miss. i liked the continuous storyline
