144hz monitor (1080p, 27") or 60hz monitor (1440p, ultrawide 34")

As the title says. I've been on the fence about buying a new monitor and these 2 have been pretty high up there. I'm planning on scrapping my current PC, picking out parts I can still use (HDD, SSD, PSU) and using them for a new computer but at the same time I want an actual PC monitor. Currently I'm just using a flat screen LCD tv (42") that's hooked up to both my PS4 and PC but when I build my new PC I don't want to stick with the TV anymore due to using 16:10 aspect ratio and the pretty shitty refresh rate.
Now onto the main question, I've been using large TVs for a while now to double as my monitor so I don't know how well I'll adjust to a smaller screen. In your opinion is the 144hz worth it vs the 60hz (yes I know about the smoothness) vs having an ultrawide (curved) monitor?
The 2 monitor's in question

Here's some basic questions.
Do you think the 144hz is worth it?
Do you think the 144hz vs the 60hz can make a break a decision?
Do you think ultrawide monitors are worth it?
Is 3440x1440 difficult to render for games, as in will a computer need a stronger GPU vs 1080p (both maxed settings for example, just use any card for an answer, I'm planning on getting a gtx 980).
Ultrawide monitors aren't fantastic for gaming, mainly for productivity. 144hz is worth it if you've got the case, but IMO 1080p at 27" is a bit rough. Granted it'd still be better than your TV. Why not cut down the middle and get a 2560x1440 27" 144hz monitor? This one has gsync since you're getting a 980. You can cut the price down to $470 if you opt to go without it.

144hz is pretty damn silky smooooooth

I actually never even considered going with a median between the 2.
Now another question is LCD or LED better as far as screens go? Also what's the difference between G Sync and Free-Sync?

LCD and LED are unrelated.
LCD is the type of panel and LED is the backlight.
G-Sync is Nvidia's variable refresh rate implementation and FreeSync is AMD's.
You're going to be hard pressed to find a monitor like that without freesync, but its a completely free firmware implementation unlike gsync, so you aren't paying for a feature that you.won't use. Just really up to you if gsync sounds like it's worth the extra 80 bucks

Yeah I probably should pay more attention when I read. I guess G-Sync would be better since I'm most likely never going to use any other card other than Nvidia.

Also I assume I can use my ps4 with all of these monitors as well?
Nope nevermind that monitor doesn't have an hdmi port

I use this and it's really nifty. Has the NVIDIA 3D gimmick if you're into that

have the same one, and it is pretty solid
Last question, is G-Sync even really worth it? I mean aside from being essentially a much better version of V-Sync and only working with Nvidia GPUs, would you consider it worth the money?
Having recently got an XB271HU.
It's all worth it. 144hz, IPS, 1440p, Gsync. All of it.

I was looking to get a better monitor for a while now and this seems like the best choice, but everywhere I go I see people complaining about the backlight bleed and how they sometimes had to replace it 5 times to get one where it's bearable, is it really that bad? I want something with 144Hz, G-Sync and more than 1080p and this seems like the only monitor that has all of that.
I have this monitor
http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-34-Inch-LED-Lit-Monitor-S34E790C/dp/B00Q7VCSGU/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1450019586&sr=1-1&keywords=s34e790c
And let me just say, if you're used to 60hz, then you should go for the curved one. I have never before in my life used a monitor as fantastic as this one, and me being used to 60hz this was just perfect.
However, if you are a competitive gamer, you should try and go for a 144hz one. Otherwise, i can't see any real reason why you should not get the 144hz one.
I've never tried the other thing, but if your computer can consistently crank out high fps and you play fast paced games that have a lot going on visually, I recommend 144hz easily. I've got a friend that just plays EUIV and I wouldn't recommend it to him.
Got a Asus swift pg279q, upgraded from a regular 60hz 1080p 5 year old monitor, and let me say, if you're planning to get a gtx 980, the 144hz is totally worth it.
Ultrawide would be handy for video editing and such, but 60hz vs 140hz, or hell even 60hz vs 100hz is a huge step up if your PC can handle highier framerates.
However with G-sync, I wouldn't consider it a selling point. Not much of a thing.

If you've talking about the XB270HU, sure. But even now, the QC is massively improved. The XB271HU's quality control is much better. In my research and experience you're likely to get a better monitor the first time with the XB271HU vs the XB270HU or the PG279Q.
BacklightBleed is a concern, but is also overblown with people taking long exposure images to make it more noticeable. IPS glow is there as it is on every IPS screen. This is my first XB271HU and the BLB is barely there. IPS glow is better than my HP ZR30w, contrast is great, and no stuck or dead pixels. For a non-pro monitor I'm really pleased with the quality control but also the build quality. It straight up doesn't feel like an Acer product, regardless of the price.
If you buy one, I'd buy it from Amazon.
Gsync probably isn't a massive thing for people who don't like vsync. If you like vsync and hate tearing but can't stand the input lag or the way it cuts your framerate down, then you'll likely enjoy it. Sure you know you're running at 40fps and not 60fps at times, but the transition between framerates is completely flawless in my experience so far with it a week in.
Couldn't be happier unless they made a 4k 40" version.
1080p on 27 inches is pretty grainy in my opinion. The pixels start to get really big.
In my opinion it's either 24" 1080p or 27" 1440p.
144hz but only if you have the hardware to stay above 144hz.
144hz but only if you have the hardware to stay above 144hz.
I think getting 144hz even if you can't reach past that limit is fine because it'll be a good investment for when you do finally upgrade. You'll be so used to like maybe 90 max, and then when you get the hardware and push past 144 you'll be like oh fuck I'm wet all of a sudden
144hz but only if you have the hardware to stay above 144hz.
What? Not at all. That's like saying you shouldn't get a 60hz monitor if you can't stay above 60fps. Even if his hitting somewhere in the middle its worth it. My 96hz is great.
144hz but only if you have the hardware to stay above 144hz.
144hz also helps reduce tearing if you're not on gsync or vsync.
Not to mention just working on the desktop at 120/144 is much nicer.
I'd go with 144hz.
I decided to go with a 144hz monitor
Thanks guys.

I never really use V-Sync so I don't think I'll care too much about G-Sync.

Well it has Freesync which is like Gsync for AMD cards, so next time you upgrade your GPU get an AMD one and you're set.
Is getting a 1440 144hz monitor worth $500ish. I have a 24inch 1080 60hz now but I have been wanting to move up to 1440 and go over 60hz but I mean it seems like a huge jump in price I spent 140$ on this cheap monitor but it's served me well so can someone tell me if 1440 is really worth the plunge?

Good choice! Enjoy it! :)
I'm in the same situation as the OP.
Been thinking about getting this...http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-29-Inch-Ultra-wide-LED-Lit-S29E790C/dp/B00TR0518U/ref=sr_1_40?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1450364889&sr=1-40
I know it is a 60hz refresh but is the difference really that much? Even if it is, is it safe to oc a monitor?

Overclocking a monitor has never been proven to degrade monitor life. The only reason that monitors can even be overclocked is that they are made imperfect-- some screens may be able to run only 65Hz at max, some may be able to run 67Hz. They usually keep the margin of error above 58, as they just always downcock to 60Hz. They're not going to market the monitor with it's fully capacity as it's not a garunteed thing. I have two 60Hz monitors, one overclocks to 70Hz and the other to 66Hz.

It's a bit different with the Korean PLS ones though. That's mainly due to there being no control board in the monitor itself therefore everything like pixel clock and such is controlled by your GPU.
