For the better part of the day, PlayStation 3 owners have been unable to take their consoles online via Sony's PlayStation Network, a seemingly unplanned network outage that the company says it's "working hard on restoring."PlayStation Network service appears to have been interrupted early on Wednesday morning, with functionality still not restored. The company said via its official PlayStation Twitter account, "We're aware that some of you are having issues trying to log into PSN. We're working to resolve the issue, and we'll update you here."
The company's European arm has offered more frequent, but still vague, updates on the downtime. "PlayStation Network engineers are working hard on restoring the service," Sony saidthrough its PlayStation EU blog. "However, we have no news on when it will be back online."
An alert posted to the PlayStation Community site reads, "The PlayStation Network is down temporarily. This is unscheduled maintenance and we are unsure how long it will be down. Don't worry, SONY is aware of this and the engineers are all over it."
Kotaku contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America reps for comment and clarification on the unscheduled downtime, but has not heard back yet.
PlayStation Network services was severely interrupted in mid-April, after an "external intrusion" compromised the network's security and exposed users' personal information. That extended downtime lasted until May 14, when Sony restored some of PSN's services. Hopefully, today's situation is far less severe and will be remedied soon.
Good.
EDIT:
Not that losing credit cards is good, but the fact that Sony got their comeuppance for that terms of use agreement.
Seriously? The first time it was bad, but what is this, the third?
Wait a second, checked the article again. There's nothing about credit card info gone. Silly OP.
Update: The people at PlayStation Europe tweeted at 12pm Pacific: "Current indications are that we'll be restoring PlayStation Network services in approx. two hours. We appreciate your patience."
At least it isn't a long wait for it to be back up this time.
Good.
Yes, great, thousands of people can have their credit card info stolen and have serious amounts of trouble as a result. How fantastic.
...which would be valid if credit card info was actually at risk this time.
I may be completely missing this, and sorry if I am, but could you please point out the part where it says CC Info is at risk again? I don't see it mentioned this time at all...
Where exactly does it say credit card info is at risk THIS time?

I updated it.

Seriously though. Again?
How the fuck does this happen?
not this shit again
we'll be restoring PlayStation Network services in approx. two hours
I have a slight feeling it might take a little bit longer than that.
the worst part about this is that thanks to the new TOS, Sony isn't responsible for their shitty security and the people who have had their info stolen now have no way to seek compensation
No problem.
Last time this happened I had pretty much abandoned my PS3 for RIFT.
Good.

Um doesn't valve have the same thing in theirs?

Fuck
How about not being an arse and actually posting the correct Title and Link?

And I go to the Xbox360 vs PS3 debate thread and people prefer PS3 online. Uhhhhh
Um doesn't valve have the same thing in theirs?
Valve generally doesn't have their customers info leaked and goes the extra step to maintain security.
Not so much for sony, which is infinitely times larger then Valve.
And that's what happens when you try to fuck your customers in the ass.
Where in the article does it say credit card info is at risk?
Where in the article does it say credit card info is at risk?
It doesn't.
the worst part about this is that thanks to the new TOS, Sony isn't responsible for their shitty security and the people who have had their info stolen now have no way to seek compensation
Ironically, since I had 30 days to do so, and had not agreed yet, I can still Class action their ass to hell if shit goes to town.
not again...
And that's what happens when you try to fuck your customers in the ass.
Yeah man, interrupting the services people who have nothing to do with a problem are using and sometimes rely on is totally a fair retribution for a fairly standard clause that doesn't actually hold water in most courts.
:downs:
Where exactly does it say credit card info is at risk THIS time?
It doesn't. He posted a wrong title.
How is this funny? At all?
I give up.
I'm hiring a lawyer to sue for me.
Godfuckingdammit not again I want to play crysis 2 online you assholes. Fuck you Sony.
