The animation along with the camera seem to go all over the place. I'm not sure whether the Arma realistic first person fits into DayZ at this point.
-snip- wrong article
“This is pre-alpha footage, so it makes no effort to mask the variety of bugs.
Wasn't it pre alpha like back in the summer? It makes me wonder why are they even trying to do this on the arma 2 engine as opposed to on the arma 3 one?

It still looks just as bad and buggy as it did before. I never understood this whole hype over dayz
looks like they have a very long way left to go

game development takes time
Well, it looks okay but it still needs a lot of polish. The lightening effects look amazing.
Why would you carry an axe sideways?

I agree, something about the tank-like controls in Arma 2 added to the spookyness
I will never get over the bullet noises/effects on the axe.
I think the zombies need to be more threatening. Like you can't just run away from them forever. That would solve a lot of the player killing IMO. Or like, to keep water flowing you need to have groups of people working together.. Eh, random pvp will probably never end because I guess killing all other humans is a realistic survival experience. Because I mean seriously, if you were out in the woods alone at night with zombies everywhere im sure the average person would totally become a physcopathic serial killer.

They know that they can ruin things very easily for others, and they don't really care what happens to their characters one way or the other because they're not committed to their character, just the thrill of ruining the experience for someone else. There is literally no downsides for them and no reason for them to do anything else.

True, actually that makes more sense than what I was trying to say, I was moreso making fun of the people who tell people it's 2hardcore4them when its not even a matter of being hardcore its just being a dick for no reason. But there still needs to be downsides to straight up murdering people for no reason. But there's no way to control that. The bandit system doesn't even work because the person could be saying or shooting towards you and if you kill them you get negative humanity. They should make it so you need lots of food and medicine to survive if you go physchotic or something so its not DayZ 2: FFA with Zombies added in.
There's also really nothing to encourage cooperation either which means that there is really nothing to even make you want to trust someone else. It basically boils down to the best bet if you want to survive is to kill anyone who comes near you, which just furthers the problem.

There are a few things Rocket uses to try and push people away from kill-on-sight. (1) You need a lot of resources (food / water / varying types of medicine) to survive, and you probably won't find everything on your own. You can try to trade. (2) When you shoot someone, you damage whatever they are carrying, making it useless if you try to loot their corpse. (3) Ammo will be waaaay scarcer than in the mod.
It will not erase the problem, but it will make it less desirable.

Is there a way to wave at other players?
Is there a way to wave at other players?
Arma has a gesture system, and I do remember ithis idea being among the huge list of suggested features.
Hey look, a Mosin Nagant
I would not play this
Is there a way to wave at other players?
If Dark Souls has taught me anything, it's that gesture systems just give other players a way of getting in cheap shots.

But it wouldn't be the same game if they didn't exist. Player communication without voice is hilariously creative sometimes. The voice commands in Chivalry are another great example.

"No, NAY, NEVA, I THINK NOT!"
I like the deadliest warrior pirate voices. I keep hearing one about sodomy but I forget how it goes.
I hate the Arma 2 walking/running sounds.

All they do is scream their head off. We did that once on a game of Samurai vs. Spartans on Acropolis. The Spartans were all in a road between two buildings just off the main area, where it drops off down a few flights of stairs. The Spartans packed shoulder to shoulder with their massive shields from wall to wall. We come running off the top of the ledge and pouring down the stairs towards them. So from their angle, they can't see anything but they can hear a steady roar of yelling from the ledge. Then just a tide of Samurai screaming louder than anything come flooding towards them, swords and spears and maces raised high. Half the Spartan team just turned and fled when they saw that. The rest got slaughtered where they stood then we chased down the ones who had run away. We won that game easily.

I don't actually know if they plan on adding new sounds for walking and running but.

There may be hope. Maybe.
The camera is super shaky, I hope they tone it down a notch.

Why? It actually sounds like you're carrying a lot of things.

If it's anything like Arma 2 there is an option to turn off the view bobbing.
I just hope snipers won't be as plentiful as in the mod. PvP with pistols, assault rifles etc is exciting and you stand a chance even if you are taken by surprise, compared to getting killed out of the blue by some guy sitting on a mountain.

I would assume snipers and especially the ammo are going to be pretty rare. Unless crafting allows you to kinda craft your own crappy snipers like duct taping a pair of binoculars onto a Mosin. Although that would be awesome if you could do that even if it is really impractical.

You've never handled an ax before.
