Hi, I'd like to get a new pc soon. I was wondering how much it would cost counting that I do a lot of 3d graphics/level design/video editing and usually stress my pc out quite a bit, what components do you think I should use? ATI, AMD, Intel, or Nvidia.. and so on.
Thanks.
If you are in the UK then I'd say around £700. Want me to throw together a build for you? What's your budget and what country are you in?
Honestly, you shouldn't stick with one brand just because of the name. Go with the best price / performance ratio. Right now I can do all of that just fine on my Q9550 + GTX260 + 4GB DDR2 1066MHz (UDK / Hammer, Maya, Photoshop, etc.), but that's a generation behind now.
Personally, I'd recommend an Intel i5 850 + ATI Radeon HD 5850 + 4-6GB RAM.
Then again, I haven't been keeping up that much recently, since I don't feel I'll need an upgrade for at least another year, so I may be off a little, the PC Building subforum should be able to help you a lot more, but I'm guessing that's around what you'd need.
Hmm, it is awful hard to make recommendations without a budget. Definitely don't pay attention to what brand of components you are using, performance trumps all.
You can build a pretty mean machine for ~$800.

For doing a job and specific task Linux is better
