My HDMI port is busted so i ordered some component cables, but i'm getting this weird red shadow behind everything. Any idea how to get rid of this?
Double check the cables are connected correctly if you haven't already. Try another TV, or maybe another cable. Also, I remember that the Sony A/V connector is very flimsy and shitty, so try messing with it.
Try another TV
I've tried with 3 TV's, the connection is very good, you almost have to force the cable in, and it does not flex or anything.. It's the 320GB slim one, not the newer super slim. Oh and this does not happen if i use the SCART cable (kinda like 80's version of HDMI).
What video mode have you set it to? 480p/720p/1080i?

The last thing I'd try is another console. If it still does it then, I'd blame it on a low-quality cable.

Same happened to me with shitty cheap calbe years ago. No way of fixing the HDMI port?
Yeah, it could just be that. With analog signals like component, the quality of the cable actually matters (Unlike HDMI cables).
No way of fixing the HDMI port?
It's possible, but the soldering dots are so incredibly small and close to eachother that i can't solder them, and i don't have a heatgun.
Doesn't the PS3 support RGB? If so, you could use a VGA connector.
Definitely a cheap cable problem. I have one that does the same thing on my Xbox 360.
