Http://www.hid.im Hid.im is a new web-based service that allows users to hide .torrent files inside PNG images. This means that users can easily upload hidden torrent files to their favorite image hosting service and forums, or use it as an avatar on social networking sites without being censored. More here http://torrentfreak.com/hidim-converts-torrents-into-png-images-090714/ Heres one of W7 7600 x64 Just to clear some shit up, the picture above is how they will look, the torrent is encrypted with in the pixels of the picture.
I don't understand the point of this. Why not just upload it to any regular uploading site?
I don't understand the point of this. Why not just upload it to any regular uploading site?
Censorship avoidance. Easier to post on forums (direct link instead of having to go to an external site to get it)
Lol, wouldn't a 8GB file PNG be a bit.. suspicious?
That is actually pretty sweet. [editline]10:56PM[/editline]
Lol, wouldn't a 8GB file PNG be a bit.. suspicious?
You don't understand this one bit, do you?
I do. I just thought I post that.
Lol, wouldn't a 8GB file PNG be a bit.. suspicious?
:ughh: The idea is to hide a .torrent file inside a png, not the torrented file itself. Edit: where's my facepalm? :argh: Edit 2: here, have a different one:
Make be handy some times......:pervert:
I guess it would make you feel special to put a bunch of warez torrents in your avatar.
I guess it would make you feel special to put a bunch of warez torrents in your avatar.
too bad it really only comes out like the .png i have in the first post, so them being used as avatars on FP would be useless.
This would've been more interesting if they had used a LFSR to randomize the stream, then encoded it in the low bits of another image.
This would've been more interesting if they had used a LFSR to randomize the stream, then encoded it in the low bits of another image.
that might come out of this later, who knows where this could end up, i mean it is fairly new.
Great now their going to have to ban images from the Internet because of this.
Quoted for negative ratings.
Great now their going to have to ban images from the Internet because of this.
Wow, you're retarded go brush up on life and come back to us in a year or two.
I like this :) I don't really use torrents but it'd be great for sending it at work or something :)
This reminds me of putting songs in pictures. So... awesome!
This is stupid. Having to decode them on the site too. Useless. Just change the file extension from .torrent to .png or whatever you want. Upload it to a site. Send the link to someone and ask them to open the image with their torrent program. Profit, with 10x less hustle.

GG on reading.
they use to do thin on 4chan when it was first created
they use to do thin on 4chan when it was first created
But it was by sticking archive files into the end (or start, I kind of forgot) of the image data and there was some huge files some times :v:
... you decode them via firefox addon, or a javascript bookmark. GG on reading.
That's even more stupid. If some forum or anything that you're supposed to use this on filters out torrent files, how big is the risk that the administrators will snap up this hid.im thing if you have to explain how to download the crap every time you post an image and just block hid.im?
I hope this becomes popular.

They wouldn't even try to explain it to others.
Awesome, but it would've been more awesome if it actually hid the TORRENT, and somehow shrinked the images filesize (or tricked the server to think it was smaller).
Awesome, but it would've been more awesome if it actually hid the TORRENT, and somehow shrinked the images filesize (or tricked the server to think it was smaller).
Uh... if you hide the torrent itself then it isn't a torrent anymore, you'd be downloading it from a single source. Torrents are P2P. And as someone already pointed out, a several hundred MB or several GB png would be rather suspicious, not to mention impossible to upload to most image hosting sites.
Then why don't you use the trick to put a rar in a jpeg, and contain the torrent in the rar? Then it won't look like ass, and you can have whatever pic you want!
Then why don't you use the trick to put a rar in a jpeg, and contain the torrent in the rar? Then it won't look like ass, and you can have whatever pic you want!
Cause uh, this is faster? the point isn't to choose whatever picture, the point is to allow you to share torrents on sites that don't allow you to upload .torrent files. it also makes it a one click thing when downloading the torrent via the image rather then having to unrar a fucking picture after downloading it.
