• Computer fan screech killing my earrsssssss

My computer has been making this very high pitched screech noise and I finally figured out what is making the noise. I turned this fan off I don't hear any high pitched noise but when I turn it on it sounds horrible. What can I do to make it make it not screech? What will happen if I leave this fan off? My ears hurt listening to this.
Is that fan on anything important? You could just replace it, unless it's on the CPU, in which case it might be a combination of the heatsink and the fan, in which case replace both.
Oh, yeah. You can buy new fans. I'm :downs: [editline]2nd November 2010[/editline] don't know if it's on anything important though.
Well if you get another fan the same size and just replace that one, it might be for the best. Do you know what size it is? My other advice is that if you have any other Nvidia fans in your computer, please replace them immediately. Go onto newegg and you should be able to find some ones by Rosewill or Coolermaster,(although Coolermaster I think produces mostly 120mm LED fans) for really good prices. Trust the highly recommended reviewed ones as well.
Looks like an standard 40mm Fan with 3 pin connector..
Fans on the northbridge and southbridge... Best solution, buy a new fanless motherboard.

Take the fan motors apart, squirt a bit of WD-40 inside.
