Hey guys, I just borrowed GTA 4 from my neighbor that has already completed it to test out my new laptop.
So I did everything and launched the game.
However there appears to be a problem - whenever playing, I get a constant lag, and each 2, 3 or 4 seconds, I get a FPS drop to an ABSOLUTE FREEZE for a about half a second. This is really annoying and I can't normally aim or drive.
However, cutscenes do not have these problems.
Here is what I tried:
Updating video drivers.
Re-installing the game.
I also have DirectX 11 on that Laptop.
Here are my PC specs:
Acer Aspire 5745G.
Intel core i5 CPU 2.27 (4 CPUS).
4096MB of RAM.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 2677 MB.
I tried reducing, maximizing, making graphics medium. Nothing works. I need help.
Cheers.
EDIT:
Okay, so I noticed it's something with my walking around movements.
Whenever I press W, it happens, and if I hold it, it doesn't, but if I release it and for example press and hold S, same happens for the lag.
If I keep pressing and pressing W, I get an extreme lag.
What the fucking fuck?
First of all, the GT 330 M is a rubbish graphics card for intensive gaming, so you'll need to turn settings down a fair bit.
Next up, check your temperatures. Half the time, gaming issues on laptops can be pinned down to overheating, so if you can rule that out it narrows it down a fair bit.
Also, have you tried using an external keyboard?
Yes, I am playing on medium graphics at maximum fps. Lowest doesn't change the fps.
I will also get an external keyboard if possible.
Have you tried turning clip capture off?
Clip Capture?
Also, disable Vsync from options.
Its in the settings, it writes to the hard drive whats happening in the game at the time. If you have a slow hard drive (likely for a laptop) that could be the bottleneck
There should be a sticky on facepunch for tips to improve GTA 4 performance, there's so many threads about it.
Hey guys.
Update:
I have tried an external keyboard and nothing changed - the problem still persists without a slight change of lag.
I also have turned off Clip Capture and the problem did not change as well.
And another thing:
I cannot seem to find Vsync in anywhere on the ESC menu,
Also, would anyone mind giving me a few links to the 'How to reduce lag in GTA 4" tutorials?
Did you pirate the game?
No.
Oh, and I finally managed to fix the problem - I just added the new updates and now the problem is gone!
I am playing the game on almost the highest resolution, and there is absolutely no lag!
Cheers!
