Adjusting the Aspect Ratio of A Secondary (Television) Display
2 replies, posted
I just attached a secondary display - a television - via s-video to my computer, but its aspect ratio is way off. The TV itself is 16:9, but the only options I have for its resolution (in my computer's display options) are 800x600 and 1024x768 (neither of which are 16:9). This results in everything looking quite fat when displayed on the secondary monitor.
My question: Is there any way to change the resolution to match the actual ratio of the television?
Some of my specs (if more information than this is required, please lemme know):
Windows XP Professional
ATI Radeon HD 4650
Secondary monitor is a Dynex 26" 720p HDMI LCDTV
Any help will be very much appreciated! :)
Use HDMI (DVI -> HDMI), DVI, or VGA for the second monitor instead. You could, possibly, change the resolutions in the ATI CC, but it's really not even worth using with such a crap connection.
Most graphics card will only be able to output to the standard 4:3 aspect ratio when outputting to S-Video. This is because S-Video is an analog video connection, which has a standard aspect ratio of 4:3. It's not even outputting true 800x600 or 1024x768 - it's really outputting an interlaced image with a resolution of approximately 640x480.
Your best bet is to change the aspect ratio of the TV, or use something other than s-video to output to it. S-Video was designed for standard definition 4:3 televisions, so you'll never be able to come close to the quality of VGA, DVI, RGB or component video with something like that.
