Thomas Begley was responsible for the Shankill Road bombing in October 1993. He was carrying the device into a shop when it exploded prematurely.
The bomber's father unveiled a plaque during the commemoration ceremony which was organised by Begley's friends.
A loyalist protest took place on the nearby Crumlin Road prior to the event.[/quote]

I'm honestly surprised there wasn't any trouble at the protest or the commemoration, but I don't get why they're holding it for this guy in particular.
I wish our country wasn't so retarded. Considering the Protestants are planning to protest in the middle of the Christmas market because they can't get marching through Catholic areas, and they're gonna do it during the Christmas market which nearly didn't come back this year cause of all the rioting over flegs this time last year, it's a fucking silly thing to do, and it's just gonna be a drain on the economy. Hell I'll admit here I'm a Catholic, I have no idea why they feel the need to march through primarily Catholic areas, and also why they're complaining about a flag they never noticed til it was gone. Apologies for the rant but every time I see both sides (you know what there shouldn't even be sides) doing stupid SHIT, it reminds me of how messed up NI is.
I can understand a memorial to the victims, but to the bomb planter? fuck off

I assume the people behind the memorial are on the same side as the bomber. That is, in their minds he was doing a good thing. Planting a bomb in a shop, what could go wrong?
Killing innocent people never done anyone any harm.
