43 More exchanges are gonna be updated to Fibre. Some of which will get full fibre-to-the-home treatment, opening up the possibility of 100Mbit/s connections to 2.5 Million folks by 2012.
BT won't say specifically which exchanges get fibre-to-the-home, so it's your donald duck, but here's the full list... if you are on it you got like a 1/4 chance of getting fibre to your door.

I'm gonna have to move out to get anything faster than snail-pace.
Not that far from Bicester though, maybe I'll just move there :D
I bet it costs through the arse :\

Well it's costing BT £1.5bn. So their gonna have to recoup it somehow =)
lol mitcham

Doesn't matter.
If you are not on Virgin you go through a BT exchange. You will prolly still benefit from it somehow.
I wonder when all the world will move to a complete huge fibre optics network. That's would be cool. :O
But with all this extra bandwidth being available, are they still going to keep up the stupid restrictions?
Damn it australia, where is ppc1.
Considering that BT provide no where near to what their claimed up to speeds are, I wouldn't get your hopes up. - If you want a reliable ISP go with virgin media.
That sucks my exchange aint on it, I only live a 2 minutes away from mine. :(
No York dammit ;_;
The wires here are still made out of copper and are from like 1980 and are very damaged

That's because of the old copper wiring.
Virgin media is fibre optic, once complete this will bring BT upto somewhere near the same level as Virgin.
FIbre Exchange with copper to the door can apparently hit 30-40Mb/s. Not bad, considering Virgin's much newer tech can struggle with 50Mbit/s in area's.
BT's Fibre-to-the-home can easily do 100Mbit/s, so there will be 2.5Million folk out there with much better than Virgin can offer.

Virgin Media's 'newer tech' is infact horribly aged equipment, yet I still get the full 50Mbit/s in my area, which is known to be notoriously oversubscribed
Compared to BT's tech it's almost futuristic.

true, also why is there not one exchange in the NE listed, that's just mean

Don't deserve t'internet. :P
:smith:
Bangor, but not Belfast. Huh...
BT has a very large network though, although the technology is old they have been laying down fibre cables for years now.
You can peak at 24Mb/s if you live near a BT exchange, I get 16Mb now.
I'll point out that the bandwidth is up to 100Mbit/s and on average will be like...2Mbit/s

They already do 8Mb to most of the country.
How can we get speeds up to 120 Mb/s here without fiber optic then o.O

Does it mean that other companies can start using the fibre lines like how they use BT's copper lines?

can't say it rings a bell
