So I just put together my new computer which has an HD4890 in it and I have my old Nvidia 8600GTS lying around. I asked Sbradford about using the Nvidia as a Physx card and using the 4890 as my main video card and he said he didn't know. So, I come before you Hardware section, to help me with this dilemna.
Is it possible and what slot would the nvidia card go in?
No, it is not possible to use an Nvidia phsyx card while using an ATI main card.

Yes, there's a workaround...
I havent found it yet then
There is a way to do it, but it's kind of hacky and not very user friendly, and slightly unstable.
Don't Nvidia's new drivers disable PhysX if you have an ATI card in your system?

That's what they are talking about. A workaround that limitation. However, I have no clue about it so don't ask me.
There's a hacked driver floating around. It's an arbitrary software limitation to sell more Nvidia cards and steal your right to use the product, not a hardware limitation.
Surely it can't be as simple to go back to an older driver set for the Nvidia cards?
I remember I had to download something to enable Physx for my 4890, for a game to work.
Nvidia should be getting some ACTION LEAGUE lawsuits because of this bull.
Easiest way I found to get PhysX working under an ATI video card is to buy the old Ageia/BFG PhysX PCI/PCIe 1X add-on card.
I have read that you can use 185 drivers or before and it enables physx.

Seriously, preventing you from using their product in an unintended way so deserves a lawsuit.
Stop being dumb there's no way having two expansion cards will mess up your system unless they are seriously morons at creating drivers. The whole system is made for multiple expansion cards.
Besides, what they intend of money making schemes is a case of no concern. It's your graphics card, you should be able to do whatever the fuck you want with it.

You're right. Sony should also let me play 360 games in my PS3 instead of imposing these silly restrictions on what I can and can't do with my hardware
Because a whole different CPU architecture and graphics API isn't a technical restriction at all, it's an arbitrary limitation Sony patched in.
But it's my PS3, I should be able to do whatever the fuck I want with it :saddowns:
So can you use PhysX with ATI cards?

As long as you have a separate nvidia card and use 185 drivers or older.
