Wilfrid Laurier University's campus in Waterloo, Ont., is on lockdown today due to a threat against the school's science building, according to police.
"The posting was made on 4chan. It is suggesting to students not to attend the science building at Wilfrid Laurier University," Waterloo Regional Police spokesman Staff Sgt. Michael Haffner said about 4chan, an anonymous online forum.
I don't know if it's a legitimate threat but it's better to be safe than sorry.
Any old sod can pop onto /r9k/ and make some shit up about shooting up a school and cause a lockdown now. It's getting a bit silly.
It's a bit weird that the FBI are coordinating with the RCMP, does that mean the post originated from the US? If that's the case though, was the 'threat' even remotely credible?
I can't even imagine something would ever even happen in KW, but I guess all towns that have had shootings and/or ignored warnings thought the same...
EDIT: I just got a text from my friend who goes to Laurier. The lockdown has been lifted.

This is an Ontario university. Chances are they are going to be both safe and sorry.
/r9k/ has been posting these "Some of you are okay, don't go to ______ tomorrow" threats for the last month

Why? Are police just supposed to ignore a threat?
Also from a friend there who's on school term there were actual FBI agents there, in uniform. I feel there's probably more than just a random post on /r9k/
Let's hope officials get this and stop locking down everything on each 4chan threat.
Way to have temporary solutions for a not-so-temporary problem.
threats are threats and still have to be responded to, even if they are fake
it's like the boy who cried wolf except if you ignore the boy next time he cries then people die and it's your fault
Fucking 4chan man it's worse then cancer
my sister had a midterm (she goes to Conestoga) but all of the computers systems were down because apparently they run off of Laurier's systems

mostly because the FBI specialize in things that can help them out and likewise for them, seems more collaborative.

FBI collaborates a lot with other agencies, both in the US and outside the US. They have a lot of tools, resources, and information that'd be beneficial for those agencies, so it's typical to see the FBI involved in some of the situations, especially in other countries. They also most definitely get involved if the threat originated from an individual in the United States, which might've been the case as well here.
