The mother of the girl called 23ABC and said that she's making her daughter hold a sign that reads, "I was disrespecting my parents by twerking at my school dance," on the corner of Union and California avenues. The school that she attends does not outlaw the dancing style, the mother told 23ABC.
http://www.turnto23.com/news/local-news/parents-force-daughter-to-hold-sign-for-twerking-at-jr-high-school-in-bakersfield-090913 Way to shame your daughter.
I think twerking is really dumb, so I honestly can't decide if this is good parenting, or awful shaming of your child. Part of me is leaning both ways. Probably could have been handled better in private, but euuugh..
Good, twerking is disgusting.
Good, twerking is disgusting.
People have been shaking their ass for centuries it's only recently that we've come up with a word for it
11 years old and doing the twerk? I'm with the mom on this one. This young girl is only disrespecting herself by twerking because lets face it, it's a very sexual movement. And at a school dance? She might as well have gone up to all the boys and just outright asked if they wanted her.
Good, twerking is disgusting.
people dancing how horrible useless humans [editline]13th September 2013[/editline]
She might as well have gone up to all the boys and just outright asked if they wanted her.
its basically the same thing!
People have been shaking their ass for centuries it's only recently that we've come up with a word for it
There's a difference though. I mean you can shake and dance a million different ways and be very attractive doing it. But twerking? I've never once found it to be attractive. At all. It's a turn-off for me.
Elvis Presley faced outrage because he'd shake his crotch around basically you guys are not only prudes, you're 50s prudes facepunch's strange occasional stripes of social conservatism strike again
People have been shaking their ass for centuries it's only recently that we've come up with a word for it
12 year olds don't need to be doing it.
Elvis Presley faced outrage because he'd shake his crotch around basically you guys are not only prudes, you're 50s prudes
I'm all for adults shaking their bits; do as you please. Being attractive or tasteful while doing it is the challenge.
Elvis Presley faced outrage because he'd shake his crotch around basically you guys are not only prudes, you're 50s prudes facepunch's strange occasional stripes of social conservatism strike again
You're comparing Elvis Presley to an 11 year old girl.
Elvis Presley faced outrage because he'd shake his crotch around basically you guys are not only prudes, you're 50s prudes facepunch's strange occasional stripes of social conservatism strike again
There's a difference between a 12 year old doing it and a 30 year old man doing it back in the 1950s. The sexualization of young girls is fucking disgusting.
You're comparing Elvis Presley to an 11 year old girl.
you think back then kids weren't going and impersonating this big new rock star that came out of nowhere?
you think back then kids weren't going and impersonating this big new rock star that came out of nowhere?
To be fair; considering the time period you're comparing this to, there's a chance any kids that did impersonate him got beaten.
Elvis Presley faced outrage because he'd shake his crotch around basically you guys are not only prudes, you're 50s prudes facepunch's strange occasional stripes of social conservatism strike again
Difference is, twerking looks fucking gross.
Difference is, twerking looks fucking gross.
why cant 7th graders dance in a more sexy way is my question
why cant 7th graders dance in a more sexy way is my question
Exactly. Kids-just-entering-puperty will be kids-just-entering-puperty, they'll do stupid shit to appear 'sexy'. But Jesus Chirst, twerking? Girl, get an ugly pink low-cut shirt or something.
why cant 7th graders dance in a more sexy way is my question
Because they're 7th graders. They can dance any way their parents allow them to.
why cant 7th graders dance in a more sexy way is my question
Because they're under-age?
Because they're under-age?
When was the last time you were around 7th graders? They will always try to be sexy. They will always fail at being sexy. It's just the nature of life. But holy fuck, can't they try in other ways than twerking?
People have been shaking their ass for centuries it's only recently that we've come up with a word for it
It's just really weird to see a 12 year old do what is essentially a butt-powered mating call. Not really worthy of a punishment like this though.
It's just really weird to see a 12 year old do what is essentially a butt-powered mating call. It's not like they're doing this just because she went out and twerked.
I find it good that the mother is teaching her kid a lesson. That is a parents job.
Yeah twerking is terrible, but I think public shaming of your kids is even more terrible.
Yeah twerking is terrible, but I think public shaming of your kids is even more terrible.
Not like you can beat them anymore. Kids these days have it really good. It's almost impossible to effectively punish them. They have nothing to lose.
my mom asked me to show her how to twerk
Not like you can beat them anymore. Kids these days have it really good. It's almost impossible to effectively punish them. They have nothing to lose.
Abusing children isn't effective punishment.
Abusing children isn't effective punishment.
And this isn't really abusing children. Worst scar this'll leave is a #gosh #fml on her twitter
How did she disrespect her parents when they weren't even there.
And this isn't really abusing children. Worst scar this'll leave is a #gosh #fml on her twitter
I was mainly talking about physical abuse.
