We decided to work with Focus because they understand our game and they believe in our vision.” Jeremy Blum – Founder and Game Director of New World Interactive The decision to collaborate with a publisher is primarily for their expertise in console distribution and broader marketing reach. New World Interactive retains full ownership of the Insurgency brand and creative direction on the project.

Sandstorm is powered by Unreal Engine 4 and will be a major visual and technological upgrade to Insurgency. Although the game is being developed for console, it will stay true to its PC roots by ensuring our dedicated audience has a seamless transition to the new game. Sandstorm retains what makes Insurgency unique and challenging, bringing this experience to a new console audience. In addition to console support, Insurgency: Sandstorm will contain some exciting new features such as a new story mode and eSports framework. The game is being built from the ground up with competitive multiplayer, console split-screen, and singleplayer in mind. The story mode will focus on a squad of characters as they face increasingly challenging chapters, from the invasion of Iraq in 2003 through the insurrection period and leading to the present day.
[t]http://newworldinteractive.com/isl/uploads/2016/02/Contact_ExteriorBefore_1080_Reduced.jpg[/t] [t]http://newworldinteractive.com/isl/uploads/2016/02/Contact_ExteriorAfter_1080_Color.jpg[/t]
That's awesome news. Good for the developers, I've always enjoyed Insurgency since it's mod days. I'll be keeping an eye on this. Hope it can gain more popularity by reaching out to consoles. I'll sure be trying to get my buddies in on this.
Looks good, wish they would've showed some new enticing content rather than an HD remake of their current maps.
It'll be nice playing it on something that isn't source. Source runs really poorly for me, so I'm really excited for this.

The things that make this really interesting for me is the single-player and competitive MP, mainly the SP though. I hope it's similar to Rainbow Six or Republic Commando where you can actually order your squadmates around instead of them essentially acting as turrets that passively follow you around and shoot stuff/get shot at.
Hope it keeps the intense feeling you get in firefights. Seriously if you've not played it, try it. I'd say the gunplay is more fun than BF and CS.
Sounds interesting, I just hope they manage to keep the gunplay as good as it is now. I absolutely love the gunplay in Insurgency, it feels so satisfying.
Insurgency was great as a mod, great now as a standalone game, and I have faith in them making Sandstorm also great.
It's so odd, the version in UE4 looks much less vivid at least on that development screenshot even having more complex geometry And you expect UE4 to run better?
Considering I develop for UE4, yeah, I do. [editline]24th February 2016[/editline]
What are you doing that you can't get a decade+ old engine to run well?
Running poorly for me is when it dips below 40-50 fps consistently. I can play things like GTA V maxed at like, 80-90 fps, but not insurgency. Not entirely sure why, honestly.

Try cramming the same detail that you can achieve on the Cry Engine into a Source map and Cry Engine will perform infinitely better.
Everybody wants a slice of the E-Sports pie don't they.
I haven't played since it was a mod, is it still a 1 hit kill fest?
Yeah that's the point of the combat lol. It's realism. The only problem I ever had with the combat was the Red Orchestra type 1 pixel of death from 400m.

Standard rifle plates can stop at least 3 7.62x51 rounds at close range.
The source-engine image looks better to me, higher-res shadows and more realistic lighting. UE4 definitely has more potential, but it doesn't look like they put it to good use yet.
I'm assuming this will have to be bought after release, even if you have the Insurgency standalone?
Said it in another thread, but I wanna say it again. I hope they'll bring back the level of client-side modability of the last game if it's even possible with UE4 and that they'll keep the arcade-ish gameplay bits that made the last game so damn fun.
Story seems lame tbh, i'm really sick of generic military stories. Focus on what makes Insurgency so great, the multiplayer.
It'll be nice playing it on something that isn't source. Source runs really poorly for me, so I'm really excited for this.
UE4 runs poorly for me. Because of a sound bug that they won't/haven't fixed with AMD. With Intel CPU's a sound uses like 50 cycles, with AMD it's closer to 400
And you expect UE4 to run better?
source games run like shit for me when very few other games do. CSGO frequently dips and stutters hard and alt tabbing/launching the game seem to take literally forever

Been playing the shit out of Ins ever since it came out as a mod, kinda sad to see it leave Source but the devs are a great bunch for keeping it alive. Godspeed!

Aloha Snackbar! I'm hyped.
When was the last time we had a generic military story played straight though where everyone wasn't an elite CTU tier 1 operator.
the reboot of medal of honor. 1/3 of the story had you playing as a generic infantryman
