He entered the plea shortly before the trial adjourned for short break and is expected to say that he carried out the killings in "preventative self-defence." As he entered the courtroom, Breivik made a far-right salute before lead judge Wenche Elizabeth Arntzen opened the proceedings. Breivik then told Arntzen he did not recognise the court, as it supports multiculturalism, and he also objected to her as judge. When asked if he was unemployed, Breivik said he was a writer and worked from prison. Prosecutors read out the names and details of those killed and injured in last July's attacks, which included the bombing of a government office in Oslo and a killing spree at a political youth camp on nearby Utoya island. Breivik - who admitted killing eight in the bomb attack and a further 69 people, mostly teenagers, on the island - showed no emotion as graphic details about his victims' deaths were read out. The trial is expected to last 10 weeks and is taking place before a panel of five judges. Heavy security was in place for the trial, the biggest in post-war Norway, which has sparked massive worldwide interest with hundreds of journalists accredited. Earlier, a police convoy believed to be transporting the gunman, arrived at the courthouse shortly before the trial commenced. The convoy, including a grey van escorted by motorcycles and an unmarked police car, entered an underground parking lot at the courthouse, an AFP journalist at the scene reported. Picture: AFP After opening statements, Breivik is set to testify for five days, explaining why he set off a bomb in downtown Oslo, killing eight, and then shot to death 69 people. Breivik is facing terrorism and premeditated murder charges. The key issue to be resolved during the 10-week trial is the state of Breivik's mental health, which will decide whether he is sent to prison or to psychiatric care. I also expect he'll get killed within his first 12 months in prison
I swear, he twitched a bit when they read up the names of the bomb victims.
He claims the attacks were necessary to protect Norway from being taken over by Muslims.
Wait WHAT? How does mass murder protect Norway exactly?
Wait WHAT? How does mass murder protect Norway exactly?
Pretty sure he thinks that social democrats are paving the way for muslims to take over the country, or something like that.
Still have my flag up! Let's hope for the best outcome gents.
Wait WHAT? How does mass murder protect Norway exactly?
Anti Muslims tend to be more stupid and insane than Muslim extremists.
Anti Muslims tend to be more stupid and insane than Muslim extremists.
Can't agree on that though. They both blow innocent people up, they both have retarded ideas. I'd say they're on the same level.
Pretty sure he thinks that social democrats are paving the way for muslims to take over the country, or something like that.
Yep, and way to work against your cause, Breivik. Now anyone who thought that Muslims might've been a problem are all like "nono I'm not like Breivik, Muslims are cool"
What is so ironic is that he tried to intimidate people from supporting the labour party. The youth division mass doubled it's number of members, and now the party will probably stay on top of the list for a few years.

Live coverage on Sky News and BBC World News, if anyone's interested.
"The right-wing fanatic who admitted to killing 77 people in Norway has pleaded not guilty in court to terror and murder charges saying he was acting in self-defense." That's ridiculous.

That's ridiculous.
He's obviously trying to turn this into some kind of martyr case. Even his lawyers said they thought it was retarded, but he's their client, so jeah... what can they do.
No way he'll get out of this. I also expect he'll get killed within his first 12 months in prison
This is Norwegian prison, so I doubt that he will be killed in there.
They have television, pc, toilets etc, just like a small apartment.
If I was homeless I'd kill someone and not deny it at all. Problem solved!!
The trail have been for 5 hours, so this thread is abit late. He started to get tears now.
If I was homeless I'd kill someone and not deny it at all. Wow he started to cry when they played his own video detailing the "rape/murder/extinction" of the European people thanks to multiculturalism. This guy...

As horrible and inhumane what he did is, I want understand what he is thinking and how he justify this. Just in case somebody misunderstand what I'm saying, I don't advocate his actions at all and agree they are in no way justifiable. What I want is information in the same way studying Nazism doesn't mean you are a Nazi.
No way he'll get out of this. I also expect he'll get killed within his first 12 months in prison
He'll probably be put in a "special" prison to eleminate the risk of vigilante justice
He'll probably be put in a "special" prison to eleminate the risk of vigilante justice
The US equivalent of a specialist prison is the regular Norwegian prison. So a specialist Norwegian prison would likely be a fairly comfortable bungalow.

I'm not really understanding how shooting whites protects us from the sand people Silly Anders
I'm not really understanding how shooting whites protects us from the sand people Silly Anders
He believes it's the white people's fault for creating this multicultural society that he thinks will destroy Europe.
Because compared to the United States, Western Europe, with its liberal views on multicultural societies and open borders, is an outright brewing nest of criminals, racial hatecrime and religious nutwaffles. Oh wait.
He WILL in some way be incarcerated for the rest of his life, regardless of whether he is put on trial as sane or insane. If he is deemed sane though, he may get the chance of communicating out his ideology.
