• Unable to access download.microsoft.com

Basically as the title says, I can't download things from Microsoft (as all downloads come from download.microsoft.com). If I try and ping it, it says 'Ping request could not find host download.microsoft.com. Please check the name and try again.' Other PCs in the house can access it (one running Windows Vista, one running Windows XP, and one running Windows 2000). This PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64. I have tried changing the preferred DNS in my Wireless Connection's IPv4 settings to say, Google's (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) but this did not fix the issue. If I do nslookup download.microsoft.com (using 'Obtain DNS server address automatically'), I get the following output: Server: login.router Address: 192.168.1.1 DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. DNS request timed out. timeout was 2 seconds. *** Request to login.router timed-out I would like to point out here that I can ping login.router just fine. I have also edited the hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc and added the line "92.123.153.49 download.microsoft.com". The IP address was provided by a friend. I can ping that IP address. Unfortunately, this did not fix the issue either. Further points - when I am at University I can access download.microsoft.com. When I reinstalled my operating system in the past a couple of times to try and fix the issue, it didn't. I've finally resolved to try and fix this issue again once and for all as I am at home currently. This issue is extremely annoying, and any advice on how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Just to let you know, noone will be able to access this thread, I managed to get here using the index alone (http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1120747). You have used periods/full stops near the end of your title, and this will cause the site to think the last few characters are of a file extension. I suggest you get a mod to change the title.
Changing the title doesn't seem to work, and I cannot even see how to report my own post to point it out to staff. Dammit I did not know about this glitch.
Make a new thread
microsoft must have changed IP's, and your dns server isn't updating it. Try Google's public DNS

You probably need to change it in your router's page, can we have your router's model number?
The router is a Solwise SAR 600-EW
You can usually get to the router settings by using the gateway ip. You can find the gateway ip under "default gateway" when you type "ipconfig" without quotation marks into the command prompt
You can also add /page1 to the end of the URL
True. If there are 5 or more characters after the period/full stop, the server no longer treats it as a file extension, so you can just add a couple of random letters at the end and they should be ignored.
