Lawmakers approved gay marriage Tuesday in a historic vote that saw supporters overcome cultural, racial and geographic divides and put Illinois in line with a growing number of states that have extended the right to wed to same-sex couples. Gov. Pat Quinn said he intends to sign the bill, which would take effect June 1. It's the Democratic governor's latest step in taking Illinois in a more liberal direction. Under Quinn in the past three years, Illinois has banned the death penalty, legalized medical marijuana, provided driver's licenses for undocumented immigrants and approved civil unions.
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-11-05/news/chi-gay-marriage-illinois-20131105_1_illinois-senate-gay-marriage-gay-lawmakers hooray for my state
This is cool. I was thinking sometime last year that there would probably be a domino effect and we'd have a small number of states who still hadn't passed it as opposed to a small number of states that had.
there are still 35 states that haven't legalized it so we have a ways to go
Yeah, but Mass. was the only state who had it for four whole years, then several more got it in about the same time, and now suddenly the number has doubled in the past two.

When Quinn signs the bill, I guarantee there will be a week-long celebration. This neighborhood knows how to party; during Pride Fest this year, the lines to get into the bars and clubs were wrapping around blocks at just 10 A.M. The nighttime lines? Don't even ask. I'm hoping for some insanely excessive behavior when Quinn signs it in. Boystown is gonna fuckin' erupt, and I want to be there when it does. [QUOTE=Pvt. Get ready for the protests from thousands of bigots who don't realise that this literally has no effect on them whatsoever.

Maybe a few senile old people and some overly religious folk holding up signs in front of a post office.
Good. If populous states like California, New York and Illinois legalize gay marriage, more and more states may follow suit.
