So I just saw an advert for this on TV..
Basically, you can put iPods, Blackberries, most phones, and even Nintendo DS's on them, and it charges them wirelessly. Just needs to be plugged into a wall, so it's not 100% wireless, but I think this is pretty cool anyway.
I'll put more info and pics up as the website starts working, but I was wondering if anyone had heard of these, or even has one!
MORE INFO:
Each thing you want to get it to work for has a snap-on receiver that you "snap on" to it. I'm guessing this is connected to the recharge port. Then whatever arcane magic is used allows the power to be transmitted so it can be recharged.

Wow that looks awesome.
I saw the ad for this like two weeks ago, but with Christmas coming up I'm going to have to wait to get one. They look really cool and it would be useful to someone like me with an iPod, phone, and DS
Why isn't there a reposted thread report?
Blech, thought it might have been reposted. Sorry!
still looks badass though.
That would help out a lot, loosing all those cords.
Fancy.
Look, that shits fucking charging!
Is it really fucking charging?!?
Yea, it's really chargin mah shit!
Ooh, induction!
Dumb commercial too.
interesting, now what to do with the cords... Garrotes!!!

You are late, this technology has been in use with toothbrushes since ages ago
I remember seeing the prototypes of this thing quite a few years back.
Could you use it as a mouse mat so that you never have to charge your wireless mouse? That's a good idea. I COPYRIGHT IT NO ONE TAKE MY IDEA.
Some woman (show about woman inventors hurrdurr I made the mat into a desk) made this into a desk, and I say that it's a lot better than that small mat.
It might be a bit inconvenient to try text or call while the phone is still charging.
Still, it looks pretty cool.

1) lift the phone up
2) text or talk
3) put the phone back

I would totally get that if I wasn't sure it would cost more than my soul is worth.

What if the phone was dead and you needed to text or call straight away?
It uses a coil of wire to create a magnetic field that inducts a current in another coil inside the device. This is how transformers work too.
There's also a chance that true wireless charging - having the device be charged anywhere inside a much larger magnetic field - could work.
the only draw back is the fugly case you absolutely have to have on the device, almost doubling the thickness of some phones.

Sony has a fucking TV powered wirelessly, now that's cool
It's dumb because you have to put them in that fucking sleeve... If you could just set it right on there I'd buy it.
Also I played with it at Best Buy, it makes noise when you attach or detach something.

And how the shit does that work? You plug the cord into the DS at the top, not one of the sides...

Well my phone can be used like a laptop so I'd just open it and start texting or use the speakerphone.
And if your phone was dead you could like wait 2 minutes or hold the plate up to your ear.

It does work it's just horribly unefficient
