I recently built a PC and Im using the HD 4870 1GB. As for the new DX11 cards coming out by ATi, will every 5xxx series ATi card beat any 4xxx series ATi card? Basically, if I buy any DX11 card when they do come out (including the cheapest ones) will they perform better than my card? Cause I dont think I have 400$ to dish out on the new 5870 when it comes out and I was hoping that buying a cheaper DX11 card would still be an upgrade from my 4870
If you "recently" bought a 4870 1GB sell it. You should get at least $100 giving you $500 and save up another $100 for a 5870x2.
I dont have the 400$ in the first place
and where would I sell it?
a 4870 is fine it supports GPGPU and tessellation two of the main features of DX11
so the 4870 should fare well (two words) for a while?
iirc 5870 is supposed to cost $250 USD at release. Pretty reasonably priced, considering it's a brand new enthusiast card.

More like $399.99.
From what I heard on /g/, there are 2 versions of the 5870. One with 3 display ports and one with 6 for workstations.

wow, that's pretty cool.
The 1GB version is supposed to support up to 3 monitors and the 2GB version will support up to 6 monitors.
OP, i think only 58xx cards will be better than the current 48xx. Maybe also 57xx. 56xx will probably be similar to 48xx, just made more cheaply (meaning 128 bit bus and some other changes).

3 versions
5870 1gb (3 ports)
5870 2gb (3 ports)
5870EE (2 gb, 6 ports)
EE stands for Eyefinity Edition
So if there's a good chance there will be a 5870 for around 250, I don't think I'll be having a problem.

Numerous review websites say the same thing. Also according to a few of them, Dell will be exclusively supplied with like 75% of the first batch of released cards, only leaving a scarce 25% for retail. It's going to be slim pickings for everyone that isn't buying a Dell machine.
