I noticed this a couple of months ago:

Why are some cores being parked? That presumably causes them to stop functioning? So technically it's slowing my computer down?
Anyone got some info about this?
It might be your bios, to save power? I know most modern pc's have some kind of feature like that.
And I think the cores start back up when they're needed.
Doesn't use them if they're not needed. Other cores will remain active during idle. However when it's needed they'll be used.

Thats what I figured, why would this feature exist if it hinders performance ?

If I recall correctly it only does it when there is very little activity. Like right now my computer isn't doing a thing so only CPU 0, 2, 4, 6 are active. They're not in some sort of off state, it'll become active if it needs to and become inactive afterwards. If you sit there and watch it for a minute you'll see it become active again then it might just get parked right after.
Might be related to Hyperthreading.
Turn off all power saving states from BIOS and it won't happen.
Atleast doesn't happen with my I7-920 after i've turned off power saving features.

I don't see any reason to turn off power saving unless there is a problem.

For me the problem was that it was causing bluescreens due to Overclocking but dunno about OP, but seems he wants to stop core parking.
Technical support subforum?
Anyway, like others said, turn off power saving features in the BIOS.
Windows does it, there is a registry hack for it.
Why the disagrees? It's only parking the Hyperthreading virtual cores, so it is to do with Hyperthreading.
