The Oregon school shooting is evidence that the US response to gun violence ‘has become routine’, Barack Obama says. The data compiled by the crowd-sourced site Mass Shooting Tracker reveals an even more shocking human toll: there is a mass shooting – defined as four or more people shot in one incident – nearly every day
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/oct/02/mass-shootings-america-gun-violence?CMP=fb_gu Click link for visual overview.
I guess I'm not too surprised to see a bunch of shootings resulting in injuries in Miami; but holy shit Waco, TX had a bunch of shootings on May 17th ( just looked it up and there was a shootout on that day too https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Waco_shootout) shootout between SWAT and Bikers
good god the toxic ass comments
This isn't a "gun crisis." It's a mass shooting crisis.
This isn't a "gun crisis." It's a mass shooting crisis.
Which is done with, get this, guns...
Which is done with, get this, guns...
And people, but you'd never call it a "people crisis"
Which is done with, get this, guns...
But is done by, you will never believe this, crazy people... (extremist are crazy too so don't try that shit with me)
But is done by, you will never believe this, crazy people... (extremist are crazy too so don't try that shit with me)
But is also done by, the easy access to guns by crazy people...
Anyone ever thought about a "mental issue" crisis?
Sadly with these unclickable, I had to do my own research. The one on Mar 20, 2015 in Joliet, IL (from what I've found) had one dead (not four injured) and was gang related
“We believe it occurred because the vehicle, not because of the occupants,” the chief said.
The one at Brooklyn Center, MN on Aug 26, 2015 was a home invasion.
the hospital room where he is recovering, the 32-year-old man told us he's in a wheelchair now because the intruders shot him in his thigh. He invited KARE 11 to his hospital room but asked us not to identify him because he fears for his safety. His wife, 37, was shot in the foot.
They need to link to their sources, and describe if they're gang violence, robbery, or what jumps to everyones minds (senseless mass shooting). Both of these could've possibly been prevented by wiping out gang activity, not restricting the purchasing of firearms.
This isn't a "gun crisis." It's a mass shooting crisis.
which are shot by guns that are held by people. all of these threads always devolve to a anti gun vs pro gun argument that never gets anywhere. then both sides become so incredibly passionate about your view that you can't recognize the truth which is you're BOTH RIGHT. this isn't just a gun problem and it isn't just a people problem. it's a people with guns problem and BOTH issues need to be addressed.
But is also done by, the easy access to guns by crazy people...
Precisely, but not the guns themselves.

I was pointing out the obvious bias of the title.
I feel like the only way the federal U.S. government would ever do something about gun violence is if other nations and economic blocs placed trade sanctions on the U.S. until a response to gun violence was made. This however creates the horrible precedent that countries can bully other countries regarding matters which are none of their business, using trade sanctions, and also every economic bloc or superpower has their own problems, which would make them look like hypocrites for focusing on what happens in the U.S. But the point is that it seems nothing will ever be done about it (I'm seriously not advocating the above). If you look even here on Facepunch when a thread about a mass shooting is posted, like at least twice per week as sad as it is, all the pro-gun people come out and try their hardest to shut down any debate on ways to resolve the problem; to them, there isn't even a problem. It's just the American way of life. However, some people will say things like 'oh it's just gang violence' or 'oh it's just mental illness', but the thing is that every other developed nation still has issues with gang violence and mental illness. Yet, gun violence is never as prevalent per capita in other developed countries. My favourite saying about all of this, ironically from The Onion of all places, is "'No way to stop this' says only nation where this regularly happens". I feel very fortunate that I don't live in the U.S.
Anyone ever thought about a "mental issue" crisis?
Actually, both reasons. Crazy people that can easily get a gun.
how about calling it "Media turning shooters into celebrity" crisis. and the easy accessibility to guns plays a part in it too, its maybe not the reason but it definitely helps making it easier for the shooter.
I personally agree with you fully. I was pointing out the obvious bias of the title.
The title is fine I think, it's pretty much reflective of the content of the featured article. I would argue that there is a widespread violence problem, which is made more shocking and obvious in the US due to the abundance of guns in the US. Do take note that a violent gun incident is considered a mass shooting as soon as four people die. all it takes is for an agressor to take down three people before being killed to make a mass shooting. Not that four casualties are anything to scoff at, but it does put the shocking claim in perspective.
Do take note that a violent gun incident is considered a mass shooting as soon as four people die.
Are wounded, they Don't have to die. A "casualty" is both for the dead and wounded.
I though a mass shooting meant three injured at least, not necessarily killed.
And they don't even have to be injured by the shooter to count. If they get scared and fall over and skin their knee enough to need treatment, they were "wounded in a mass shooting". It's incredibly arbitrary.

It's just the American way of life.
Nobody says this, we just don't believe that guns are the sole reason shootings happen in America. I don't even know how you would enforce that a ban. You'd risk the lives of thousands of citizens, law enforcers, and soldiers, maybe even the risk of defectors. I guess to ban guns, you'd first need to ramp up decades of anti-gun propaganda. Hell some people already believe the obsessive reporting of shootings is the start of that.
However, some people will say things like 'oh it's just gang violence' or 'oh it's just mental illness', but the thing is that every other developed nation still has issues with gang violence and mental illness. Murder and prison time are staples of American gangsters, they say there aren't many OG's around because the ones that don't escape gang life end up dead or in jail. As for mental illness, there's a reason every case of "possession" seems to happen in the US or elsewhere; because if it happens in the UK they go get examined, diagnosed, and treated. Or called out on their bullshit.
This is actually counting gang violence? Literally instantly discredited, lol.

The little flags underneath people's names on facepunch makes gun threads so much easier to understand
