• My harddrive appears to be clicking...

Every now and then my harddrive will make a clicking noise that I could only describe as sounding like a heartbeat. One click then a slight pause, then another slightly higher pitched click. I'm slightly paranoid here because I don't really have an extra harddrive, or computer for that matter. This something to be concerned about?
Any odd noises are something to be worried about. You should do a SMART check with the hard drive
Have you recently touched your hdd or moved it in any way?
When does this happen? Does it happen completly random? Or when you are opening up files, folders etc on the hard drive?
Seemingly at random.
Seek retries. Bad. Get your data off it and RMA if possible, otherwise discontinue use of the drive.
It's an old drive, and an old computer. Don't have a replacement for either currently. It that bad? SMART checking isn't failsafe. I've seen drives which passed but mechanically you heard there were problems.
Well, have a replacement on its way. Just have to hope this doesn't die in the mean time.
After you get the replacement, try formatting this drive and see if it still occurs.
Take it back to where you bought it and complain, that's what I do.

Run a smart long self test and non-destructive write mode badblocks if you have linux handy
