• Melodic Death/Black Metal with Clean Vocals

I love how the following bands incorporate clean vocals into their music, but I wanted more. Some of these groups don't use clean vocals that often, while the others use them a lot. I really wanted to find some groups that do similar things with their vocals. Solution .45 - The Close Beyond Scar Symmetry - Prism and Gate (Same vocalist as Solution .45.) Odium - Serenity's End Edge of Sanity - Aftermath D Creation - Drifting Forever Adversary - In Vino Veritas All that Remains - This Calling (Yes, I know this is metalcore, and I know that you hate it.) Anaal Nathrakh - More of Fire than Blood (Not melodic, but it includes clean vocals.)
The band Primordial are black/pagan metal, although most of their vocals are clean. And the vocals are fucking fantastic.
The band Primordial are black/pagan metal, although most of their vocals are clean. And the vocals are fucking fantastic.
They sound good. Thanks.

Not exactly black or melodic death metal, but if you like Primordial, you might like Darkest Era. I'm trying to think of some more.
Primordial is amazing. Not exactly black or melodic death metal, but if you like Primordial, you might like Darkest Era. I'm trying to think of some more.
That sounds badass.
Killswitch Engage use alot of clean vocals in their music. Nice melodies and heavy riffs too.
Agalloch have some clean vocals on their earlier albums, less and less as time goes on though. They're fantastic either way
Mercyful Fate is considered to be old-school Black Metal by many. And they are so freaking good. Doesn't get more evil and metal than this.
Solution .45 Scar Symmetry Odium D Creation Adversary
:respek: I don't have enough time to list some bands right now, but I will in about 40 minutes. I'll list out all of my melodeath that uses harsh and clean vocals (which is pretty much all of) for you. I have like (just a guess) 15 more bands that fall under this category to show you. In fact, I was looking up the lyrics for one of these for a metaphorical point I was proving to myself (about how I listen to death metal because of its tackling of social issues). Here's just the first two stanzas/phrases of the lyrics to one of their songs:
This world grows an old believer Where progress means decay Death as a tempting diva Tomorrow is yesterday Dying for a new reality Who sold it to the ones who sleep? The death of one is no more tragedy Statistics have now taken the lead
I'll be sure to link the song for you with that list. :buddy:
More good shit for fans of melodic death metal Soilwork - Bastard Chain Follow The hollow- soilwork punch me I bleed- Children of bodom Disarmonia Mundi- Ocean Grave (this one is pretty awesome!) fate in motion - soilwork rainbringer - raintime The lesser faith - Dark Tranquility Feast of burden - dark tranquility the endless feed - dark tranquility i, vermin - soilwork the new build - dark tranquility song of the damned - soilwork Some of my faves. Also more bands need to use keyboard in their music, makes it so much better in my opinion

Okay, my post says it was posted 40 minutes ago, and here we goooo Note that this list is a WIP. I update it every time I finish typing up a band's presentation. First up on the list is Dark Age Dark Age - Minus Exitus (In my opinion, their best song to date, followed closely by "Black September" and "Outside the Inside," with "Devote Yourself to Nothing" close behind) Dark Age - Outside the Inside (If you like demonic-sounding phrases followed by a soaring clean chorus, then you'll love this song) Dark Age - Devote Yourself to Nothing (A change of pace; this is from their newer, 2010 album Acedia. If you like more dynamics, both vocally and instrumentally, then give this song a whirl. Okay, that's it for Dark Age. Up next is Gardenian Gardenian - Selfproclaimed Messiah (The intro track to their last released album before splitting, this song is a good showcase of Gardenian: an introduction that goes from acoustic to pounding, clean vocals (some that are even Autotuned! And done right!), and harsh vocals.) Gardenian - The Suffering Probably their catchiest song to date. The cleans in the chorus aren't the best ever, but they're a nice contrast. The effects on his harsh vocals though more than make up for what the cleans may lack. I would definitely give this song a listen, too! Gardenian - If Tomorrow is Gone From their earlier album, Soulburner, this song is a great contrast of cleans [first repeat of lyrics] to harshes [second repeat of lyrics]. This is probably the best example of both, thrown right by one another.) Gardenian are awesome, but another great band are Ukrainians Infinite Tales. They do it a little different, with the cleans being female clean vocals, but her voice is amazing! Infinite Tales - Amoxicillin...Extermination (The first Infinite Tales song I listened to, this is a pretty accurate showcase of both the male's harshes [which could be better] and her amazing cleans [which COULDN'T be better].) Infinite Tales - Wings (Another great representation of Kiwi's amazing vocals [the female], and the contrast made with the male's vocals) Infinite Tales - No War For This Century (A change of pace from the rest of the album, this song is predominantly a Kiwi-dominated dirge, with the male vocalist jumping in at parts for added emphasis on the message of the story to the song.)
Disarmonia Mundi- Ocean Grave (this one is pretty awesome!)
Thank you for posting one of my favorite Disarmonia Mundi songs. Is it just me or are they really unappreciated?
Well, for me, I just don't much care for Speed, regardless of what band he's in. Soilwork, Disarmonia, Coldseed, whatever. I just don't really like Speed. Also, regarding that list of mine, I have more bands to add, but I have to get some work done right now. I'll update it in a few hours with even more bands. Those three should keep you occupied, though, DeathFang. :buddy:
rainbringer - raintime The lesser faith - Dark Tranquility
Dark Tranquillity and Raintime are amazing bands. Also, TC, if you're fine with bands that just have clean vocals, I have a ton you might like. Not necessarily Melodic Death or Black Metal, but I'm sure you'll like them.
Also, I'm not really sure if it's what you're looking for but Insomnium's latest album uses clean vocals in some of the songs. They're also absolutely incredible. JUST LISTEN TO THAT FUCKING GUITAR, STRAIGHT AWAY GOD FUCKING DAMN
Herp derp, why didn't I think of Insomnium. :downs: Insomnium is not only a great band, but they have relatively clean vocals, even on their older stuff.
Yeah, they've got whispering clean vocals in all their albums. but Across the Dark is the only one to have singing clean vocals. definitely my favourite melodic death metal bands, one of my favourite bands of all time overall as well.
Oh wow, I remember Infinite Tales, haven't listened to them in so long. Thanks for reposting haha.

it makes me sad that in a thread about death metal 2 shitty metalcore bands are mentioned before opeth. anyway here is some opeth with clean vocals.
Did you miss the word melodic? Killswitch Engage take influence from melodic death.
no they don't. They take influence from the same place melodic death bands take melodic from, standard "pop" clean vocals. Even that aside they still aren't melodic death or black metal or anything REMOTELY close to it. The only thing they have in common is clean vocals?

Even that aside they still aren't melodic death or black metal or anything REMOTELY close to it. The only thing they have in common is clean vocals?
I didn't say they were melodic death or black metal. I said they have melodies in their music and they take influence from melodeath. That doesn't mean I think they are melodeath, but that they have elements of it in their music. You can't define the genre of most metal bands goddamn it, opinion affects it way too much. They all make music they like, and I was suggesting something to this guy that I think he might enjoy based on what his preferences were.
I know this is semi-off-topic, but I feel this is an ideal time to share this. As a general rule, I consider modern metalcore to be a long-lost cousin to modern melodeath (IE bands that go down the path that bands such as Soilwork paved). The only real difference I've noticed in my (admittedly limited) experience with metalcore is, other than generally more generic riffs, metalcore seems to emphasize clean vocals far more than (most) melodeath bands. If I do find myself enjoying a modern metalcore band, such as Daysend, I just lie to myself and call it melodeath. :downs:
Have some Nevermore. Moonrise
Ftw. I didn't know their new album was up on youtube. Sweet. If you like Nevermore, you'll like Dark Empire. Also, does it matter if it's Melodeath or black metal specifically? It seems like lots of people are just posting any metal with clean vocals haha. (Although some of it is crappy pop metal core type singing practically.) Dark Empire In Mourning Novembers Doom (They have some really heavy songs and some really calm songs, and he has a wide range of vocals. Amazing band.) Swallow the Sun Before the Dawn (Great band) Katatonia Amorphis (Best fucking band ever. No seriously. Best band ever.) (Their older albums are a bit heavier if you want that.) Nile (Will often have some cleaner vocals on their songs, but mainly just the chorus and that's it, if you don't mind his vocals the rest of the time they're a great band.) Whoa, I left Facepunch for a day or two and the thread exploded. I am now going to listen to all of this. [editline]04:26PM[/editline]
Mercyful Fate is considered to be old-school Black Metal by many. And they are so freaking good. They sound good (and a lot like Soilwork), but I didn't hear any clean vocals in that song. If you like keyboard, listen to Mercenary. They're a really good combination of melodic/thrash/power/progressive/death metal. Thanks for the share. Mercenary - My World is Ending
