"Want a small thin basic cellphone with qwerty keypad" Looking for what's in the title. I use Verizon, am I limited to this: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneOverviewByDevice&deviceCategoryId=2 If I am, I'll have to just get the Jest. Is it possible for me to get other phones and use Verizon? Verizon doesn't use SIM cards and I'm sure there's a way to get around that. How can I?
Get another provider then a port your number. I use a HTC desire Z which has a very good qwerty keyboard. Its smaller then an iphone but a bit heavier. Getting a bit old though.

Motorola is cooking something up though, but unless Google actually tells them to stop their bullshit, then they'll still have a locked down to oblivion and beyond bootloader.

Go with a carrier that doesn't use ancient CDMA technology if you want the freedom to bring your own devices. But as the device was sold with a 1700/2100 radio in the US as the T-Mobile G2 he'd only be able to use it on T-Mobile even if he could find one for a price like that.
Find an LG EnV Touch on eBay, I had one before I got my smartphone and it was one of the better phones I ever used in the dumbphone compartment

I'd definitely recommend a Droid 3. All of those phones suck to be honest.
Android with a slide-out keyboard. Best way to go, emulators should be great like that I guess.
Ok, yeah. I forgot to mention. I don't want a data plan ($30 a month) so no smart phone suggestions..
Ok, yeah. I forgot to mention. I don't want a data plan ($30 a month) so no smart phone suggestions..
You don't need a data plan to have a smartphone. It can be disabled so it only uses data off WIFI. I bum off all the free WIFI I can :v:
I'm assuming all you do is text on the phone so any of these will do the job. There isn't much variety in Verizon dumb phones. Fuck this. I just got a Kin TwoM off of eBay. Basically a smartphone with wifi and no data plan required. Totally cool.
be warned my friend has been through three of those they're fucking terrible
be warned my friend has been through three of those they're fucking terrible
I'm only going to be using it for texting and calling. Shouldn't be too horrendous. It has more features than a regular cellphone.
That's all he uses his for The touchscreen has completely died on two and on the first the springs that operate the sliding mechanism got caught on something
That's all he uses his for The touchscreen has completely died on two and on the first the springs that operate the sliding mechanism got caught on something
Maybe he got a bad batch. Online reviews are either totally awesome or absolutely hate it. I'll have to see myself.. hopefully I don't have the same fate as your friend.
Let's hope. When it works it's pretty neat
Are there any other phones that are like this? ex-smart phones?.. or pretty much smart phones that don't require the mandatory data plan?
I'd definitely recommend a Droid 3. All of those phones suck to be honest.
Droid 3 was a terrible device for me. It was always freezing, restarting, and sometimes the camera wouldn't save the pictures I took. Sold it for a Razr Maxx.
Verizon doesn't use SIM cards and I'm sure there's a way to get around that. How can I?
Actually the new Verizon 4G LTE does use SIM cards. The big problem comes in that their 4G LTE uses 700 Mhz band so you have to make sure that the device you get is compatible. http://support.verizonwireless.com/information/4gsim.html
As for the Kin Twom I got two days ago.. it's ok.. as I expected.
